hello everybody....i am Cornel Bibiri from romania ex-easter racing pilot 1984-1989...a lot of photos was made by me and my wife but my memory is lost ....of course last photos of Resita are made in 1989....my memory is back again ...Nelutz is "lost" in Italy , we hope he will give us a sign here on forum ...greetings all of you especialy Puru ,Alexey and Ferdie and many thanks for beautiful pictures and important informations

#100 possible to be Kazakov from Bulgarie..is the same car Metalex racing on Vidraru in Romania in 1983... i am not sure about the year of Albena...i have photo with Kazakov on Vidraru made by me but i dont know to post here

ok...with great pleasure i'll try to rescan a lot of photos at higher resolution and post it here, but this i think will not solve problem....photos was made by a Smena 8 camera and ORWO film b/w...glad to meet you Alexander and many thanks for replay

I had meet Mr. Heiner Lindner on the Classic Grand Prix "Schleizer Dreieck" last weekend (http://www.puru.de/sch11.html)
I had now a clarify view regarding the picture from Albena 1976.
- The race was only a test. No start and no timing – only demonstration.
- Only two racers per country.
- Sandor Kovacz (#100-H), Lindner (#82-GDR), behind Karel Jilek (CZ), Ulli Melkus (#81-GDR), Jozef Kielbania (PL) und Jiri Cerva (#23-CZ).
- The other racer is also from Hungaria
- the race was scheduled on end of September or begin of October 1976
- no touring cars invited

Heiner Lindner resells his HTS-Chassis to Sandor Kovacz during the way back home (in Budapest).

Very sad news, Ray. The interview that you've given the link to is in Russian, so people here possibly cannot understand who Grigoriev was. In brief: the one of the most successful Soviet racing drivers of the eighties, double USSR champion (1983, 1986) and double CPF winner (1983, 1988). He always raced in the A2 group of saloon cars, and his number 64 was as famous as Napa's 72 or Kozankov's 68.

I have to check this, but I think he first took part in a rally as early as 1948.
He finished his racing career about 1970, but since then he occasionally participated in rallies.
This run I mentioned before was definitely not a competition, he just drove a few short laps on a twisty track.

But in recent years he regularly takes part in a rally for veterans organized near Cracow: Rajd Żubrów (Bisons' Rally).
In 2011 he was classified 2nd behind Sobiesław Zasada. AFAIK there is age coefficient in classification, but nevertheless it is an outstanding performance from both drivers.

I am trying to convince them to do this, but I doubt any of them will come this year.

Please note that it will not be Longin Bielak driving this Promot, but his son Paweł - who has some rally backgrounds but still needs to improve his single-seater skills.

Alexey, in your opinion which drivers, if any, could have been F1 stars had they raced outside the Iron Curtain? Logically the USSR should have had three or four drivers as good as the top British or French names of the time.

I think there were many but most of them didn't have any chance to try their luck in international racing. The only chance to take part in a race abroad was the CPF national team, which was normally comprised of four drivers and two 'reserves'. Among its long-time members I would name as possible F1 stars Yuri Andreev, Madis Laiv, Toomas Napa, Alexandr Medvedchenko, and Viktor Kozankov.

Definitely you are right: we didn't see them in action so we seem to start one of those 'what-if' discussions in this 'fluff-free zone' But going on what I have read and heard of Ants Seiler (there's a very good Estonian book about him published some years ago), he was a racing cars designer first of all. The very first Estonia single-seater, which appeared in 1958, was mostly a result of his tireless work and enthusiasm. Then he created the Estonia 2, the Estonia 3 and so on. He used to pay much more attention to designing and building cars than driving them. Nevertheless he won the 1961 USSR championship at the wheel of the 500-cc Estonia 3 and took the second place twice (1965 and 1966 1-litre F3 championships). But his international racing career was too short: he died in a racing accident in Riga in June 1968 (the last bend of the Bikernieki circuit is called Seiler since then).

Alexey touches on a very important point, here: in these races, technology and mechanical "wizardry" could make a BIG difference. I still recall my astonishment when, back in the eighties, Paul Sheldon published one of his first Black Books and formed the opinion that East German Paul Greifzu may have been on par with Fangio as a driver. In my opinion, Greifzu was "merely" a clever engineer, who beat his rivals in his workshop.

If you mean the 1-03 type altogether - then definitely yes. But if you mean exactly the cars that you have photographed... then you should: firstly, know their chassis numbers, and secondly, consult a specialist in Czechoslovak racing history, Velebný himself maybe

I doubt that these particular cars ever run in Cup of Friendship - of type 1-03 there were 53 made (according to Velebny's book). There were only 4 cars from each country, and for Czechoslovakia usually at last 2 places were taken by Lim's Avia and Vesely's RAF.
I have some papers from Polish rounds of the Cup, so if it is really important I can check chassis numbers of Czechoslovak team cars.

There were six 1-03s sold to Poland, most of them at some occasion participated in the Cup. I know that 3 of them still exist.

Dear all,

 

I found this old topic while I searched information on my racecar. Nowadays I own the racecar of Andras Gergely, which was built in '86 or '88 - I' not sure.

I'm looking for any information, photos of the car, so if anybody has some more in his archives, please post it here, or contact me in PM.

 

Alexey Rogachev linked a page, with more photos on this car (http://www.racinghis...Riga/index.html) but unfortunately I didn't find anything there...

Has somebody archived these photos before they lost?

 

Also, if anybodys interested, I'll gladly share some photos on current state of the car.

It seems the car was modified somewhere in the past, the chassis is longer, this means the fairing is modified also, the small wing over the gearbox has disappeared, the fairing over the instrument panel has a small bulge, but this is the same car definitely.

With deepest regret I inform that polish racing driver Jacek Szmidt passed away on August 12th, 2016, aged 66. He was two times Polish Champion (1978 - Formula Polonia and 1991 - Formula Easter) and he was placed third in 1981 Cup of Friendship (Formula Easter). During his career he raced a Promot 75, Metalexes 1-03 and 1-06 and Estonia 25. He was survived by his wife, two adult daughers and two granddaughters. He was burried on a cemantery in Trębki (18 kms nort-east of Kutno).

Really sad news. I got to know Jacek during my only Polish racing weekend at Poznan in October 1992, and he told me all I had to and wanted to know. I won't forget him.
