Just seen this thread - I went to Brazil in 1970-1971 for the last F3 screamer series with Colin Bennett, who I think was working for one of the Brazilian drivers - possibly Fritz Jordan. He was working closely with another mechanic out there, Ralph Firmin, and Colin was a bloody good laugh.

Wouldn't mind getting in touch with Colin again (if it's the same one) to help with stories for my book...

When do these TNF get-togethers happen, and where? Hopefully the NW bit doesn't mean Cumbria ;-)

Keep your eye on this thread F3Wrench - it will alert you to time, date and locations of NW meetings, and also highlight if Colin is coming along.

But beware, if you choose to read some of the posts you will soon find we are a bunch of eccentrics, albeit very sociable. Discussions during the evenings and on the thread range from the philosophical (Jean Paul Sartre's thoughts on the Monza banking), to the juvenile (funny though), to opinions on how Manu have let a seven point lead and a superior goal difference turn into not quite that anymore.

Maybe see you at the CB meeting!

Sounds like the Brands Hatch bar after an F3 meeting back in 1970... :-D

I was at Colin Bennett's place with Mick Avery and Dave Worrall (see above) in '89 - before I started at college I swept up and generally got in the way. I was 17. Dave's dad and mine were school friends as it turned out.

I also recall the chief mechanic called Paul known as 'Yorkie' - he swore like a trooper and referred to everyone as 'love'. I was terrified of him! There was also Mick Barrett who was with CB for years, and a couple of others. Infact - they ALL swore like troopers. One guy was there for a short time (can't recall his name) but I think he went off to the Lotus F1 team.

Anyway - I'm a school teacher now - and probably swear like a trooper too.

I raced with Colin on and off throughout the 1980s - as everyone seems to agree a top bloke.Made a trio of good team bosses that I drove for with Roy Baker (RIP) and Hugh Chamberlain. Can't believe people have as much fun now as we did before the dreaded electronic dash board came in and we all had to pore over boring traces of each lap. Sure it's ok for F1 professionals but for the rest of us it's a pain in the arse and get's in the way of having a good time. I'll try and track him down and post if appropriate

Whilst in Search mode this morning for Colin Chapman with whom I share a birthday, I stumbled upon the Colin Bennett thread, (Colin worked for Lotus and spoke highly of Chapman the other evening) and decided that having recently addressed the TNF Northern section with great aplomb, and also having won the last round of the GP Masters series with Katsu Kubota in the Italian GP winning Ex-Peterson March 761 (recently rescued from the Ronnie Peterson Museum!), it was an appropriate time to resurrect this topic!

I found these pictures relating to Colin's team from the 80's. I went there a lot as a kid.

I have some more of Andea Chiesa testing at Oulton from about 1988-89 which I'll put up later.

Colin was at Silverstone yesterday as he is running Abba Kogan's Williams FW06 and FW07B (which Katsuaki Kubota is renting this season).

Here he casts an eye over a Lola as he will shortly be running an ex-Bonnier T70 Mk3b with Mike Wilds behind the wheel.

I know this a response to an old old posting, but ...

I used to know Colin D. Bennet (ex Lotus). He used to (as a side line) run the Knutsford Marksmen and he taught me how to shoot. I'd like to get back in touch with him. If any one has his contact info please let me know.

Colin at Mallory today pictured with his test driver Mike Wilds who was shaking down the Abba Kogan Williams FW06 after the rebuild of the rear-end due to it's recent shunt at the Silverstone Masters.
