Ford exported a lot of car to S.A. in those days.
Living in England i would see the occasional Falcon and Valiant Station Waggon at track in the 70,s.
Being so wide and big compared to english car they had lots of uses to racing people.

IIRC these pics all appear in a book called from Brands Hatch to Indianapolis by and Italian with the initials AA, can't remember the name of the guy right now. Somewhere on the back cover I think there is a pic of Jody Scheckter leading the Tractor race at Brands in 1972, the latest pic in the book is the first corner at Kyalami 1974 South African GP which would put the publication date 1974, earliest, I got my copy at a shop called Kingstons in Kitwe, Zambia probably Christmas 1974. I could probably name some of the drivers who described in detail some of the tracks, Kyalami was Denny Hulme, Peter Revson, Indianapolis, Francois Cevert, Le Mans, Jacky Ickx, Nordschleife, Don't remember who did Brands, Jackie Stewart maybe, fairly sure Graham Hill did Monaco, Clay Regazzoni did Monza and Ronnie Peterson Watkins Glen, but that's probably just showing off and they are probably in the wrong order.

A couple of model transporters on eBay. The first is a "1950's Fiat race car transporter painted in the Silverstone and Jaguar British Racing Green colors". The second is a "1950's Fiat race car transporter painted in the Ferrari 'Black' colors". Here are the links:

Did either transporter really exist in these liveries?

The Ex Allan Moffat international truck that he used for 8 years including a trip to the USA,is owned by David Bowden in QLD.The Dennis fire was sold at auction in Melbourne several years ago.

Does anyone have any pictures of his first transporter and Falcon race car after the Adelaide Hills BBQ??? I was curious to know the extent of the damage as apparently some of the burnt cars parts found their way on the 'Pheonix".

The Jaguar/Fiat transporter is a totally fantasy model, as it never existed such a vehicle.
The Ferrari/Fiat transporter is a fantasy version of a true transporter of the Scuderia, that existed only in a two tone red.

Simtek had a Foden tractor/semitrailer. It was shown b/w in the first pages of an Autosport issue when someone forgot to hadbrake the Foden and it took to a ditch , not much damage though , but poor PR ! Anyone seen this ?

Hi Bjørn,
There's been a few mentions, and several pictures, of Simtek's Foden on BigLorryBlog. To be specific:-

1) Dec 08, 2010

2) Jan 31 2010

3) October 5, 2009

If it was pictures of the damaged unit you were looking for, perhaps mailing a question to Brian Weatherly of BLB would help as he seems a very amiable chap. There is a heap of helpful readers of that site and I'd be surprised if you weren't helped.

On eBay, I recently bought a 1/43 Ferrari transporter with the following description: "Iveco EuroTech team Fiat Camion de L'annee 1993". Was this transporter used by the Ferrari Formula 1 team in 1994? Does anyone have photos of the real thing? Here is a link to the model:

http://www.eautomobi...rt_num/01GB2399

Vince H.

This from Eligor, the model maker:

"Dear Sir,
Further to your email, we inform you that we regrettably don’t know what was this transporter used by the Ferrari formula one team in 1994.

We are sorry that we can’t meet your request.

If you have any question, do not hesitate to contact us..."

Hmmm....

Vince , regarding your posts 2232 and 2270 , you should not worry. Admitted the modern tractor/semitrailer combinations are not my strongpoint (yet?) , but Ferrari did use trailer over these years that changred in minor colurs and decoration , and did use the green line. Also they used all kind of Iveco tractors as they appeared , the Eurotech of yours too ca. 93-94-95 . So it is no fake .

Your post 2260 is answered in 2262/2264. Many scalemodel makers do not allways seem to know what they are doing , or do wrong models on purpose because they look smart ? Also today it is done ! But if you wont pay top price , cant find or dont have this model , you could paint your own Ferrari or Maserati transporter. $50 is not much IMO.

IM , thanks for the link and advice to the Simtek. Very good. The picture I remember it just rolled down that ditch , was not dammaged , but they needed help to pull it back again. But this proves that not all just reads the last post on a thread , and also that it can pay of to ask a couple of times , someone may just pop up and see it .

The combination Iveco Eurotech with trailer made by Eligor/Lbm is not so far from the real truck used by the Scuderia Ferrari in that period .

The photo was taken by TNFer JB Miltonian, and originally posted in this thread:

Here are Pete Lovely's Lotus 49 and Williams FW07 on his transporters. Picture taken by myself (no copyright) circa 1986.

Posted Image

The picture was taken at Pete's VW dealership in Fife, Washington, where I worked from 1981-88.

The Williams was more difficult to load and unload. The rear wing had to be removed, and extra long ramps had to be used to help clear the ground effects skirts.

Yes, Pete also had (still has) the ex-team Lotus F2 car.

Yes, the lovely wife and daughters presented a great photo op. Sorry, don't have any here.

GP Monaco 1996 . The race day was rainy.
The 1996 was the last year of that kind of livery showing the classic logo and name fonts .
From 1997 season, the trucks will have the new liveries with the new team's name changed in "Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro" .

We used to carry a Mk11A Merlyn on a Volkswagen, and it was hard enough getting that onboard! It also suffered from the, initial, mysterious brake locking syndrome. We discovered an, apparently common, problem where the fluid leaked past the seal and prevented the release of the pedal - This was very embarassing when the car was often kept in central London and traffic in Park Lane was brought to a stand-still...

the dodge race-transporter :
nice to see the real good results of this immense projekt.
i remember to have seen and closer inspected this car parked in a hidden backyard at donington, but i managed it to enter this place and take lots of photos all around and inside. it really was in poor condition, but i liked its smell of racing history .
so it is the first time after nearly two decades , to see this transporter and its brave restoration now nearly completed.

Hi - I have just spent a very enjoyable half-hour looking through the images on this thread. Thank you so much for sharing them.

Stumbling across this thread was quite timely for me as I am considering rebuilding/restoring/whatever a suitable period means of transport for my current project - Jaguar's XJ13 (1966 Jaguar XJ13 - Building the Legend. Although I consider myself to be a fairly competent "spanner-man" I do know my limitations and the vast majority of the build will be carried out by specialist engineers. To keep myself busy in the meantime, I thought I would look at sourcing a suitable means of transport of the finished car - preferably something that needs work.

I am ashamed to admit that my knowledge of the kinds of car transporters that may have been available from the mid-1950s to the mid 1960s is practically non-existent! During its development the car was tested at venues such as MIRA and Silverstone and I imagine it was transported in some sort of closed container.

Does anyone have any suggestions of the kind of vehicle that may have been used by Jaguar at this time? Any pictures of their race transporters or other vehicles used for ferrying cars? I can then begin the task of sourcing a suitable vehicle.

Excuse resurrecting another old post, but I saw this...

This is the Bob Holden Falcon S/Waggon it had Ford HO 302 motor with an Auto gearbox ,a special Towmaster trailer for the T/C Escort which Bob would lap OranPark short track in 55.2 sec and during the track test he did a 75 sec lap with the Falcon /Trailer & Escort .Not bad for a Automatic. This took place in 1970.

Thanks for the link!

Although it is too big a project for me I do hope it will be bought and restored by an enthusiast. I know of someone not far away who has a whole fleet of vintage/interesting trucks (along with the space and facilities to restore them). I shall see if I can persuade him to buy it.
