Is second from the right Alastair Caldwell? Chap to his right looks a bit like Beltoise, but wouldn't he have been competing?!

Andrew: the chap in the yellow ear defenders is Rex Hart, who was Ronnie Peterson's mechanic in 1973 at JPS Team Lotus. Stating the obvious I guess but the guy in the Gulf jacket might be a McLaren mechanic?

Didn't Mark Thatcher drive the Sparton on one occasion - oh, sorry, Dan, you said it was a "Celebrity" car
Of all the topics to choose for a first post... Mark Thatcher raced a Royale RP28M, Alan. It was basically a modified RP26: I think the M stood for methanol (or Mazola, or whatever it was they put in Formula Talbot tanks).
Mike Wilds subbed at Oulton Park once when the car's usual occupant was unavailable (or possibly lost in the Sahara). Five cars started, a couple went off at Fosters on lap one and Wilds won by about a fortnight.
Thatcher didn't have a great track record at Oulton: he once rolled a Debenhams "celebrity" Escort during qualifying and then repeated the trick in the race. Both at Old Hall, if memory serves, so at least his driving had some thread of consistency.

Correct, the Royale was a converted RP26 and Thatcher's car
(entered by Webby at Brands Hatch Racing?) had 'No petrol'
on the cockpit sides IIRC.

To many of us Yanks in the early 70's, the McLaren team was our favorite........ McLaren dominated the Can Am series and McLaren's were also very competitive at Indy....... Teddy Mayer, Tyler Alexander, and Peter Revson had our attention as well !!!
Peter Revson..... (my wife's favorite driver....can't figure out why......hmmmm)
Revson and Teddy Mayer
The Bear and the Baby Bear at the Glen.......
Team Surtees......
Mass and Carlos Pace.......
I have to play with a few more......Lotus, Brabham, and UOP Shadow.....
will try to post them by the end of the week

Probably french furniture tycoon Marcel Arnold , long time ( and discreet ) personal sponsor of Jarier from his beginnings thru to the end of 74 at least.
I don't have all my old paper files at hand, but from what I remember when Jarier was entered during the second half of the 1973 season he used the 731 G which had been previously sometimes used by David Purley . The "works" STP sponsored car had of course been destroyed in Roger Williamson's tragic accident and the team probably didn't bother to have the other car repainted , and just kept the dark blue colour in which it had been painted for Purley's LEC sponsor.

Great pics Murph .....thanks.
Andrew that rear wheel is Soooofar out of round that they have had to add loads of lead weight to the inside of the rim to keep the balance and taped over with silver race tape.

Looking back on that weekend 33 years ago.............
1) Tragedy struck on Saturday morning with the death of Francois Cevert
2) JYS retires Saturday evening....with his 3rd WDC.
3) James Hunt shows his stuff with his 2nd place.
4) I left for the Glen on Wednesday night.....when I returned home late Sunday the world
had changed...the Yom Kippur War had started and with it came the Arab Oil embargo.
5) Lots of changes in F1 to come........ Emmo, Clay, Niki, and Jody head for new digs......
Revson switches to UOP Shadow but dies in South Africa a few months later........
McLaren hooks up with Marlboro and Texaco.......
Ferrari has huge shake up..... Luca is put in charge & Ferrari concentrates on F1 and
leaves the Prototype series........

Great, just great photos, the Lotus 72 was just the most exciting Formula 1 car for me, just sheer beauty and purpose. Ronnie was one of my favourite drivers to, I must admit my interest waned after the Italian GP of '78.Originally posted by murph27

this one and that one
These sites are basically the same, races from various Belgian tracks, FVee, Touring cars, F1, 1000 km Spa etc. I like this one:

From today’s view it’s remarkable that all the people in the winning ceremony at Watkins Glen 1973 are apparently in good spirits despite the tragedy that befell one of their colleagues the day before. Look at the faces of James Hunt, Colin Chapman, Ronnie Peterson, Alexander Hesketh... Pure joy, not a trace of gloom.Originally posted by murph27

Compare that for instance to the criticism a certain 7-time World Champion got for risking a smile or two on the winner’s rostrum slightly over 20 years later.

Gil de Ferran, FF1600 1989 over the mountain.
More mountain shots. All the pics in this posting are taken from the spectator areas, the remaining ones here from the 2004 HSCC meeting.
A perfect view from the clubhouse bar viewing area:
Further afield. Between Coppice (the first bend) and Charlie's. Note road camber.
Charlie's with the mountain visible through the trees.
Looking from Charlie's to the loop out in the country.
The Gooseneck.
Looking back from Park straight to the start finish area.
Reverse angle, Park straight in the distance with left hander at Mansfield.

The HSCC have a meeting there on April 22nd next year. Do make an effort to go - Cadwell is quite unlike any other circuit in the UK. The great thing for spectators is that you can spend the whole day walking around, finding different viewing places. There are fast bits, slow bits, bits through the trees, open bits, and a memorable "launch ramp".
It's also looking likely that the April HSCC meeting will see the debut race of the Historic FF2000 Association. Watch this space........

To witness the place in person is the only way to appreciate it. A friendly clubbie paddock just how it used to be and as you say Cirrus, so many different and varied viewing points. No debris fencing either for the photographers out there! They should bring F3 back - they race at Macau afterall, far more dangerous..I'll be there at the HSCC and looking forward to your FF2000 plans!

I used to wonder who lived there, and whether they made a point of being elsewhere when the full or Woodland circuits were in use.
Unfortunately I didn't take a picture looking towards Barn - there really was a barn there, and they used to leave the doors open on race days when there was no armco there!

the March 693 at Cadwell... that would have Ronnie Peterson driving wouldn't it - rather than Hunt?
(Motor Sport ran such a pic from the '69 meeting. I think that might have been the first time I'd even heard of Cadwell Park.
I don't recall much of the place before going along to see Brundle and Senna (da Silva as was) in their big, and bitterly fought, F3 year. Ayrton didn't make it beyond practice, defeated by The Mountain (although I think he won a pole position that he couldn't take up!).
