That's well found Larry. Couldn't find a licence number in the programmes that I checked.Right chaps - I've been raking through a pile of programmes, mostly from Hans-Otto's archive.
Somers rode at St Wendel (International Preis des Saarlandes) in 1963 and is shown as "Irland".
Then, there's Snetterton International March 1964 - where he's shown as "Great Britain" with Licence No 64/C40 - that is an ACU Licence.
So - looks like I was correct in that the "Kerryman" bit was for effect to help with Continental entries.

You were right with Tanaka, but there's more to it.
In the 1960 programme T. (Teisuke) Tanaka was entered and the weeklies all quoted that T Tanaka had crashed in the 125 race. But the guy in the photo is Kenjiro Tanaka. In 1960 the Honda team had 8 riders and they rotated them for different GPs. Kenjiro had ridden in Solitude and got the first podium ever achieved by a Honda rider. He then rode at Dundrod, crashed broke his leg and never rode again. I wondered if you knew that one.

Hi Larry,Didn't know that Graham!
I have the 1960 UGP programme (and others back to 1925!) but the very first road race that I actually stood in the fields and watched wasn't until the 1961 Ulster.

Good morning gents, the shot of the start at Tubbergen with No.1 was assumed as Denis Fry with his distinctive white helmet and 'Roo'Hi RRT2, I'm afraid I can't. Not even sure about the bike, forks and brake look like a Bultaco, fairing doesn't...a Bantam special in the end ??

Good morning gents, the shot of the start at Tubbergen with No.1 was assumed as Denis Fry with his distinctive white helmet and 'Roo'
He was wearing this helmet when I took the photo in 1962 in the IoM at the Gooseneck in the Junior where he finished 29th.I tried to put this up yesterday but the PC threw a big end.

Hi Larry,
Thought I'd throw that one in as I've heard from Elwyn and Bill (Snelling) that you have an excellent knowledge of the Ulster (and of course the TT!). But it wasn't really a fair one as it wasn't reported correctly at the time. Kenjiro Tanaka is a bit of a forgotten name and his 3rd place at Solitude is credited in the books of Bula and the Marlboro guide to Teisuke. But the Solitude programme, MCN report, Motor Cycle, Motociclismo etc reports are all correct and I have quite a few pics of him at Solitude. Kenjiro came from the world of short circuit racing in Japan (bit like speedway but on tarmac!) so the story was that he was very good at turning left, but not so quick on right turns! After his Ulster accident he finished with bikes, but became a very good car driver in single seaters and the big Lolas back in Japan. He died in 2007. Here's a picture of the 1960 Honda team before they came to Europe.
I've all the programmes from the Ulster world championship era, which is mainly what interests me. Plus a lot of the GP Special newspapers which are excellent and Brindley yearbooks. Do you have any of the official results/lap scoring books/sheets? I have 1949 and some others through the 1950s but don't know whether they were published for all years as I've never seen any for the 1960s.

Thats a great find on the Honda team of 1960.Hi Graham - you're telling me a lot of things I didn't know!!
The Ulster MCC weren't religious about publishing official results, but if you can let me know what years you're missing I should at least be able to supply full lists of finishers for a good few of them.
E-mail me on lgdevlin@aol.com
Cheers

Fred in the 1969 125cc TT,Scored a brilliant 3rd (I think) then excluded for having an oversize engine. It was something like 125.5cc.Given the propensity of Bultacos to seize,I would have thought that a rebored barrel and piston would be a much SAFER bet than a well nipped up standard barrel. But just think of the massive power advantage to be had from his 'Big Bore' motor.Poor chap met an untimely end a few years later in the Island.Very accomplished BSA 'Bantie' pedaler in his day IIRC.

Hi Roy,Thats a great find on the Honda team of 1960.
I put a photo on the Gordon Colquhoun thread, but perhaps it would be more appropriate here. Its another mystery shot, all I can add is that at the same event Dave Chadwick was photographed at the same place. We have no idea who the rider is but he has a very distinctive design on his helmet. WWW for you gents.

The best I can find is that he was born in 1924 and came from Enfield, but not sure if that was his place of birth or residence at the time. He won the non-championship 500 race at Montjuich Park in 1959 and at the same venue in 1960 had a ride entered on a works 125 Montesa, but the full Montesa team pulled out before practice. Not sure where else he rode the Montesa but have seen the Tubbergen pic on the ozebook link, but have no idea whether it is a works bike. Thanks for the Peter Ferbrache ID, now does any one have any programmes which show where Peter came from and did he have a sponsor. He had a works ride with Montessa.
Thanks again.

You boys have done it again, thanks to you Gary , Geoff E, Graham and Larry, Russ, HW(sorry if I missed someone). The photos of Peter Ferbrache on the ozebook.com site are superb. Alas Peter never got a senior works ride before his death in Holland, this was a black period for the Continental Circus losing Ralph Rensen, Dave Chadwick, Dickie Dale, Bob Brown and Tom Phillis. It was a great privilage to have seen them in action.Hi Roy
