Hi Guys,

In some threads there i find couple about AGS team, my favourite. But nothing more. I will be glad if you send me everything what you search about this team.
I will post there some personal pictures from 1987 this week.

I prepare texts about this team for my site, have something about history, but some facts are too difficult to search for me. When I search statistics about AGS results, some informations missing. For example qualification time for every race, for matching also pole time.
Next question, have copy from Autosprint about Pironi tests in 1986, but only from copier in poor quality, pictures are bad, can somebody send me better copy or pictures? Exist this text in English version? Know somebody anything about results from this tests??
And the last one, I am interested in article about AGS JH27 and Olivier Grouillard in Auto-Hebdo nr.798.

Many thanks for help

AGS was the brainchild of Henri Julien who is now retired and lives in the village of Gonfaron not too far from the Le Luc motor racing circuit. The owners of Le Luc bought the rights to the AGS designs etc and have a superb facility where they have built a series of AGS Formula 1 cars to used in their driving school. They also have a complete run of brand new AGS Formula 3 cars for the school. It has become very popular for people who want to experience the thrill of driving a Formula 1 car, albeit a Cosworth engined one.
Henri, a quiet and modest man,has always been in the shadow of John Cooper because like John Cooper he started out building a 500cc Formula 3 car and progressed right up to Formula 1. In France they call the cars Racer 500's and Henri spent a few years preparing a small book on all 500cc racing cars which he eventually published privately. Today in his garage behind his house he has one or two racing cars.

Graham,

Do you know if there is any way to purchase a copy of Julien's Racer 500 book? His work on the book I believe you are referring to is mentioned in the enjoyable little 'L'épopée francaise des "Racers 500"' (sorry I can´t type the cedille in Explorer) by Francois Jolly. There was actually a suprizing number of different 'Racer 500' designs.

Reference Henri I believe he sells the books directly from home. He visited a couple of time and I loaned him a lot of English references to the cars but I have not been to Gonfaron to see him since the book was published and I know that he was not keen on selling through the regular distributor channels.
If you wish to write to him - remember he does not speak English - his address is

Henri Julien
Route Imperale 2
83690 Gonfaron
France

Thanks, Graham!

Well, I'll just need to polish off my French as well as I can, then! Do you have any idea about the size of Julien's book - and what an approximate price might be, although I have the impression that you may not have seen the completed book yet? From Jolly's book (1999) it appears that Julien's intention was to cover 500cc World-wide, and that it was a major undertaking.

Existed it a JH21D??

I have never seen any information about this car earlier, Maybe a test car? or a later build car?

There is/was one AGS JH21D for sale in Italy.
Each time I asks on its history I get the same answer Italy GP, Portugal GP, Mexico GP 1986 I think that he wrote Australia GP to. then I heard no more when more questions was asked.

I have many photos from Lohéac museum, I was there about 2 years ago and I think it isn´t same car what was for sale in Italy. I think there were 2 cars in 1986, one for race and one as a spare. As a JH-21D maybe marked last version of car, maybe test car between seasons but I think it was still JH-21C, but with another front and cockpit bodywork.

Have anybody information about second AGS JH22?? At posted photos are two cars with different bodyworks.

Thanks a lot

I never believed the "Renault tub in the lorry"-story.

Can anyone definitively kill or confirm it? (Vanderpleyn, Julien)

I think JH-21C design has many parts from French Renault F1 programme and JH-21C was development car for JH-22, so JH-22 has Renault parts too, but not so much.

One more thing..... was it really RE40 tub, not latest RE50 or RE60???
It looks little bizzare, I think the tub was little old for using in a new car 3 years old tub.

The story was that they bought some of Renaults old lorries and found an old tub in one of them. IF true that tieas in with the tub being a couple of years old.

But I still would like real confirmation rather than hearsay.

Do you mean Christian Vanderpleyn who died (from his own hand ISTR) in 1992?

Tobbe, as David Hyland wrote in another thread - Perhaps chassis 45 and 46 were allocated to the stillborn JH-26 design, I think it may be true.
In your list at F1carstoday.net you have 4 designs JH-25 marked as nr. 40 to 44, which of them was design JH-25B and what were main differences between JH-25 and JH-25B specification??

Yes I think that 45 and 46 was to JH26 that never was built. And why not a number on JH21D?

There are JH23B, JH24B and JH25B they are all the same as 23, 24 and 25, just use in next year, there are small differences. I'll check which chassis became B spes when I comes home.

Three pictures from the first two F1 races of the team taken at the moment of car's retirements:

1) 1986 Italian GP, Monza. Capelli retires with a puncture at the beginning of 32nd lap of the race.

2) 1986 Portuguese GP, Estoril. Transmission failure stops Capelli after just 6 laps of the race.

I got some footage of a news snippet from Murray Walker about Pascal Fabre's impressive run of no retirements during the first part of the 1987 season at the German Grand Prix.

Anyone interested to see it?

EDIT>>

Found an other photo of Streiff's wrecked AGS at that fateful day at Jacarapagua:
