I've been struggling to find a general Oulton Park thread, without success; here is something from the F5000 Easter meeting in 1976, it was sunny but quite cold.



iirc '76 in the UK is remembered as a really hot year, however it did not start out that way; we went to the Monaco GP dressed in warm clothing; left my Renault 5 near Heathrow still dressed in warm clothing and stepped off the aircraft at Nice to something of a heatwave.
When we got home it was even hotter than the South of France, necessitating a change back into shorts at Watford Gap services.

No idea who the subject of the photo is; it is scanned in as "image 1".

For the photographers: I have mucked about with it with Silver Efex software.

It's actually David Leslie in his Crossle Mk 16 (Dunlop Star of Tomorrow round).

No it isn't! Leslie's 16F was finished in one shade of green. Phil was correct - this is Janet McPherson in the red-and-white J&P Crosslé 30F. It might not be the Easter F5000 meeting, though...

I have found Janet running every number but 35 at Oulton Park during 1976. Maybe another year?

I've just had a look. It is from 1976 - the opening meeting of the year on March 6 (star turn: Nick Whiting in a Surtees TS16). Janet carried #35 in a non-championship FF1600 race and finished second to Nigel Robinson (Merlyn Mk24).

I was looking at the April 15th / 16th meeting initially. Nick must have been shaking the Surtees down for Davina who drove it in that meeting.

In fact Nick was the allocated driver in the MCD Open series while Divina did the Shellsport series.

She was entered, Dan, and qualified 10th - two places behind Jim Kelly's Trojan T101 and one ahead of David Winstanley's Roosters BT40.

Nice photo of the leaders, Alan. Can't recall whether Phil and I were at the front or back of the Lodge stand for that one (probably the back, in which case we're just out of shot).

He of the now long gone Bogarts Bier Kellar who used to enter Stephen South. I met him in Birmingham last November and had a lengthy chat about his racing days. He had been heavily into karting and was a good friend of John Hynes.

I wonder what eventually happened to the Wingfield Ralt RT1. Although John Wingfield was killed in it at Thruxton, apparently the car wasn't that badly damaged. Jock Robertson wanted to repair and race it but Gerry Marshall wouldn't let him.

IIRC John hit the barrier side-on and the unfortunate trajectory broke his neck.

Ten-Tenths Ralt RT1 thread describes the car as being 'wrecked' and Chris Townsend records it as "... not known after and perhaps scrapped".

Nice to see Frank Gardner leading the Gold Cup into old Hall, and also Innes Ireland in the Bernard White BRM, heading for the team's best-ever F1 result (4th)

That is not the original Pit Bar Phil, that was at the traffic light end of the pits before there were traffic lights if you see what I mean, and it was a tight squeeze!

I remember the pit bar well when it was in the location shown in Norman's photo. Primitive wasn't the word, with only shallow opening fanlights allowing the smoke and sweat to escape. There was a gap about one-and-a-half person's width between the bar and the windows overlooking the pit lane, and with drinkers standing at the windows watching the goings-on below, only the hardiest newcomers could get to the bar.
