Nobody needs to be snooty in the motorcycle racing game David IMHO.

At all levels of the finest of all sports there is a kinship and a joint desire to reminisce about days of yore and what we could have done or would like to have done.

I am always proud to have participated, even at the most basic level, and I am grateful and proud to be able to communicate with all the guys on this forum who have contributed to the sport in whatever way.

I always feel like I am amongst friends here, although I have met very few of you.

Brilliant.

You got it half- right  The Alfa Lambretta team was Spanish, The racebike, delivered from Francesco Villa (built by Claudio Lusuardi?), has Brembo brakes, Campagnolo wheels, and a fifteen horsepower engine. One of the young team drivers is driving, but the article about the Alfa Lambretta team was made by José Alguersuari.

For comparison a picture of another Villa:

This Villa is very similar to the one I raced in California in the mid-1970s... it was very fast and remarkably reliable. Thanks German gods for Nikasil, F.A.G. celron-cage bearings and Mahle pistons... :)

Hi Poul Erik

The Alfa Lambretta team leader had a Lambretta dealership in Barcelona.

Any news from the Aarhus classic?

Can any of you guys give me any tips concerning seat position and size? At the moment I've got the bum-stop in line with the rear wheel spindle, and most of my lower body weight will be over the suspension units. Is there any advantage in having a seat slightly longer to allow a shift in body weight - forward or backwards? My '60s-era chassis has a wheelbase of only 1143mm (45"). Any other advice would be helpful. Thank you.

On a fifty You should go for best aerodynamics - so its all about elbow- knee relationship: If your elbows interfere with your knees, move the seat rearwards!
Clip- ons with a more downward angle will move you a little forward.

Some do make a BIG thing out of the seating position: :rotfl:

Hey 50cc Racer

I have a photo of the start of the 50cc race at Hockenheim in 1960.

Posted Image

I don't know the rider's name but it seems to me that Number 11 (Florett) is the same guy you showed in your photo but maybe on a different date.

Cheers

Sergio

I just received an email from Mr. Rolf Bühler that number 28 indeed is his father on a 4-stroke 50cc Ceccato. It was a 75cc production racer converted to 50cc by a short stroke crank shaft.

Well Poul Erik, I am building a bigger bike myself!
And I do believe more than 50% of the parts used on Schurgers special, were of a 50cc machine :p

The Condor 125cc racer has nothing from Bridgestone, it's completely build from scratch by Henk van Kessel & co.

Schurgers Bridgestone is based on a 175cc road engine, with Hoeckle crankshaft, Van Veen cylinders and Hemeyla gearbox.

Oh please!!! I came here after living in Spain for eight years....some sacrifices just have to be made. Anyway some way back...can't remember where on the thread...there is a nice picture of George Ashton sitting astride a Bultaco. The bike used to belong to Ken Martin and at the end of the 1965 season I bought it from George. We agreed a price over the phone and I went down to London (from Manchester) on the train, swapped the bike for some pound notes at Euston and brought it back on the next train. We later rode together for the Agrati Garelli team. More later...
