They look as though a plowed field wouldn't trouble them!

I think it might be a Field Marshall with Lotus body-kit. ;)

This looks like period tires. So I'd say most people use the wrong size today.

I did however find it somewhat ironic that the major (& quite justified) critic of my over-exposure last year, Alan Cox, was the first to unwittingly post a pic of me this year from the Autosport International Show............. :rotfl:

Lovely photos, Simon. Nice to see Emerson has found an old JPS visor sticker. The Scheckter/Mansell portrait is terrific.

Shame the surroundings are underwhelming for such a splendid turnout.

Blimey! That picture of Josh in the 49 brings a lump to the throat!

And seeing those pics of Emerson, I was channel-hopping on Sky a few weeks ago and spotted him on some cookery programme on a Brazilian channel. Possibly a clone of "Celebrity Can't Cook Won't Cook", but it was all in Portuguese!

Interesting-Emmo even went back to the period helmet without the spider web and the blue shading detail. With the noticeable exception of Sir Stirling most anciens pilotes just grab whatever is available and that is generally the last one they wore.

And do I spy "Painted by SID. Brazil" to the bottom right-hand corner of the helmet?

It really is a disgrace; hopefully someone who knows how to do these things will start a petition to whichever expenses-claimer is the next tenant of Number 10.

Agreed. With ALL his world titles, he certainly deserves to be knighted. While I am over here in the US and not familiar with whatever politics, etc., goes into the Queen's honors, I still am very surprised that he has not been knighted. Does the fact that he has an OBE (IIRC) rule out an 'upgrade' to knighthood? Someone please tell me how it works.

Meanwhile, if somehow or other Nige got knighted, well, the mind reels at how humbly he would take it.

Definitely not, Tom. There is no reason at all why he should not be knighted, and I really hope this glaring omission is rectified as soon as possible.

Seeing as Jack Brabham has a knighthood I think it is a glaring ommission that John Surtees has been overlooked for so long.

As for the "grass" in the background of the John Surtees on track photo - is it grass or that plastic astro-turf stuff?

IIRC Sir Jack got his knighthood because the Australian government, quite rightly, lobbied for it. This seemed to reduce the bias in the system against motor sporting people (no knighthoods since the days of Segrave and Campbell, and they got theirs for record breaking, not racing) and so Sir Stirling, Sir Jackie and Sir Frank followed on. It is now time for Her Majesty to say 'Arise, Sir John'.

Not wishing to drag this thread into being a discussion about racing cars..... but, isn't that a rather odd intake on the bonnet of that Thinwall Special?

Why odd Barry?
It was the same configuration as the one used at the 1951 British GP Peter Whitehead and also by Reg Parnell in France.

It just looked odd to me. Maybe I'm just too fixed on the 375 which had a bonnet top intake but not like that one.

Jackie Oliver is pictured above last year at Donington in the Masters Pre-66 Saloons sharing Richard Shaw's BMW 1800ti. He's been racing in this series for a couple of years now, and also has odd outings in other historic events and festivals, notably Goodwood.

My wife and I bumped into Jody Schekter in a deserted Brands Hatch Formula Vauxhall paddock while all the cars were out practising about ten years ago and we found him friendly and chatty.
