Sorry if I'm missing something but your post kinda suggests Phil Read has died. I've just whizzed round Google, Timesonline, Motorcycle News and Autosport... with nothing suggesting anything particular about Phil Read.

Apologies to all if I'm the only person missing some important news.

Love him or not. He was a great rider, and still is. Just his bad luck to be racing when a certain SMBH was around.
But he was a true professional racer, made a decent living from it (I hope). Always looked after No1 and why not, he was in a very dangerous sport during the 50s 60s 70s 80s, only now is it relatively safe, and he not only survived, rode many different bikes, and "won a few races, set a few fastest laps" along the way. God bless him, long may he ride.

Well he did ride an RG500 in 1976, he set up the Life sponsored team, but he only did a few races I seem to recall? as he said the bike was not competitive? but I also seem to remember him & Sheene having a good scrap at Mugello early in the year, so the bike wasn't that slow!?

He actually had a big dollar deal with LIFE and had a top team including Jeff Howie on spanners. I was there the whole year finishing with a 5 week stint at Phils house after a big get off at Imatra. Truth was that Phil was gutted that the young whipper snapper Barry Sheene had stolen his glory. It happens in all sorts of sports. Then, the production Suzuki was no match for the Factory XR14 and try as you might, Barry had the gear. It cut Phil, as rightly, he had status. Anyway the rest of the story is book length but Phil was kind to me.

Interesting to read this and see the pics; my late father was a bike racing journo and I remember getting up for school one Monday morning as a young kid - we lived in Cheshire at the time - to find Phil Read, AN Other and my dad playing with my train set whil having breakfast. To me, then, it meant little.

The picture of the 350 is very close to what im after but about 6 months to early i think but there,s some good info to be learned from it still as my uncle is rebuilding a phil read bike (we think) from an eric cheney 350 frame (No.4) from the 1971 season were he won as a privater on the 250.
shame it,s not the 250 winning frame tho
so if you come across any more pictures from 1971 with phil read let me know and i,d be more than happy to buy them from you.

Thanks to classicpics and hemeyla for all the info so far, i had come across those first 2 web sites b4 but the 3rd link was new so many thanks hemeyla for that

What we really want to know is does anybody know what frame number went to which rider out of the 6 that was made ?
We have the frame confirmed as being a tr2 number 4 by simon cheney but he has no records of which frame went to which riders
When we got the frame it had a home made tank in kawasaki colours and the engine mounts had been altered to take a A1R or A7R kawasaki 2 stroke twin ?.

Apparently number 6 frame is in ireland and its a tr2 frame, does anybody know who the owner is or a way to contact them ? or does anybody know how to contact Ferry Brouwer/Phil Read ?
