Pretty sad pic of Alonso,up there-don't like seeing F1 drivers clenching fists and being helpless.

Fernando Alonso gave reporters at the Sakhir circuit a scare immediately after the Bahrain Grand Prix, when he 'nearly fainted'.
The Spaniard finished eighth in the sweltering Sakhir heat, but was almost overcome by dizziness as he spoke with the media in the aftermath of the 57-lap race.
His Renault team explained that Alonso was dehydrated because his drinks pump failed to work during the race.
"He subsequently suffered from dehydration as he got out of the car. He has now fully recovered," said a statement.
Alonso concurred, telling the media he is 'fine'. He finished eighth.
"We only scored one point and so we need to improve at the next Grand Prix," he said.
thanx for the info. couldve been worse, you know. i'm just glad he finished the race safely.
Some year in Malaysia he almost fainted on the podium because of the same problem, a drink bottle that didn't work. It can't be very good in the hot races, and as it was alredy pointed out, this year is specially bad because drivers are on their weight limit because of KERS.

Wanna know what makes it kinda funny in a way?
After qualifying they replaced the "Driver’s drink valve" and "Driver’s drink pump" on Piquet's car in parc fermé

Seriously though I hope he is OK. I nearly fainted myself once after a few weeks of very little sleep, malnourishment and pressure to perform. First I felt like a rush of blood to the head then red spots appeared in front of my eyes and then the faintness kicked in. It all happened in a manner of seconds. Luckily I managed to grab hold of a table so I wouldn't fall on the floor.

I'd like to say my post was a joke, and only posted as I knew that Fernando was ok and recovered from his post race dehydration.

Interesting interview with Toyota's doctor:
Q. What effect does the loss of fluids have?
RC: When you lose 2% of your body weight as fluid you start to lose an important part of your capacity for psychological and physical performance - if you are 60kgs that is just over 1kg of sweat. Sometimes the drivers can lose up to 3kg in a race and
if you lose 4% of your bodyweight you lose around 40% of your psycho-physical capacity. So it is normal in hot conditions that a driver would lose a bit of performance if nothing is done to combat the effect of heat.

I must agree and support Hobbes, here: these photos are almost frightening, and anyway they are horrible. Alonso looks like death.

The poster of the pic apologised for putting it here, pointing out he wasn't sure where to post pics.
Leave it at that and get back to the amusement.

About the alonso pictures, the problem is that in F1 the doctors aren't as fundamental to the team as it is in other sports like football for instance.
1, if they knew during the race that the drink pump was broken, shouldn't the doctor of the team say listen the heat is too bad here we can't afford to have a driver that's losing fluids and not taking any fluids in, it's just not safe to continue the race like this.
2, FIA if they weren't too busy with other politics battles they could look at the safety of that and impose some sort of standard system for that, to ensure every team gets the best equipment for that.
3. reminds me of mark webber in a previous season sending a message to his team that he had thrown up in his helmet during the race, again doctors doctors doctors...
4. It's not just about performance, and we know that every driver would choose to continue racing, but there needs to be a doctor who says enough is enough, its actually a danger for other people too, if he loses councience he could easily crash etc...
5. FIA should actually have a rule that says based on how tall the driver is, what's the minimum weight that driver can have before Q, and race, that way the crazy runway models crash diet will stop taking place in F1. This happens way too often. (im not saying it's alonso's case, but for example robert kubica, this is just beyond stupid)
