Looking for photos of this historic sports/racing car (division 3 sports) that raced in victoria, Australia.
T Car competed at calder, winton and hume weir circuits during the period 1969-1972.This vehicle was initially raced and rebuilt by Peter Turner before being sold in 1971. it continued to race in modified form (holden 161 Six cylinder engine replaced MGB unit) and rear bodywork was restyled from cigar-shaped to flat rear deck.

thanks.

Pretty sure there's a photo of it in Racing Car News somewhere... but it would take a while to find...

I think it might even be in a Sandown Park report.

Did the car ever run at the Island? I suspect it did. And I'm surprised at the engine size - the 161 was too big for the 2.5-litre class of the day and wouldn't have given the power that the equally-available 179 could punch out.

Sources:

Alan Gissing, who ran the similar Gissing Holden.

Greg Stanfield of Rosanna... he was a photographer at all of those meetings and would have pics. See if you can get him to dig through his stuff and print something up for you. He would definitely have pics of the car.

So Justin "Grantinni" is this the car the Peter Turner still races today in Historics, 1969 Grantinni 3B 3100cc?

See it often, at Historics raced well, piloted by Peter; so if this is the one there are many photos.

I'd say he's looking for photos from its original career...

Probably to build up a file on the car's history or something.

peter turner here. there were 3 grantinnis. the first was an austin a 30 with morris major running gear, the grantinni 2 (a,b and c) an ugly blue car whcih had a B series then a Holden 161. this had a formula vee back cover. the last car was built in 1969 and I sold it in 1972. this is the light blue grantinni 3B which had a 192 red motor at the ned. I sold it in 1972 and bought back the wreck about 15 years later. got the bug and rebuilt about 11 years ago and then off we went again. there will be photos of the present car at maximum attack in adelaide or on the sporting car club of south australia.

Grantinni here.

Sorry Peter, am using this ID and forum in the hope of finding some pictures of your original Grantinni II (probably C type). Am looking for photos from your last few races in it in late 1968-early '69 and its races in subsequent hands in 1970-71, which is when I think the rear body work was modified like yours currently runs. Specifically looking for photos from the following dates:

Calder 3.8.68
Hume Weir 31.8.68
Calder 19.10.68
Templestowe 14 & 17.11.68
Calder 18.1.69
Calder 23.3.69 (finished 3rd behind Uhrane & Parker)

Need to know what I've actually got. It's obviously a Div III sports from the era, but who raced it in its current form? I can't be sure. My wife says for God's sake get a log book and get it on the track. I understand that historic racing is looking for original cars to return to the track.

Hopefully someone out there can help!

Pretty sure I have a shot in a 1969 Autosportsman Calder report. I'll see if I can dig it out tonight.

No luck with Autosportsman - I had it mixed up with the Foretti. Found the August Calder meeting where he had a 4th in the Scratch race though in 1968, and a couple of race reports from Calder '69 where the car is mentioned too - no pics though.

Racing Car News has no pictures of the car...

Unless it wore No 93 at that October Calder. In that event, there's a pic of it in the background behind a sideways Bollwell.

The Nov 14 hillclimb is the only event on that list not covered by RCN, but there are only a few mentions of the car or driver. The third place event is listed as a Division 3 race, by the way.

I know I saw the car, and the Consutinni and other similar cars of the time. But I don't have pics any more if I took them at the time. What surprises me is there aren't more Hume Weirs on the list.
