I thought that, too. A 1959 Berkeley 5 berth, I reckon.

Nice shot...but I can't figure out whereabouts on the circuit. :\

It's coming into Woodcote, you can see the pit entry concrete road and the transporters on club straight in the background. The infield was used as a car park at big events.

Amazing that the driver kept far enough out from the kerb for the passenger to dangle out over the road. Or should he be chastised for not getting closer to the apex, so the passenger could dangle over the pavement?

Thought it looked like Woodcote, but couldn't recall a car park there. (I watched the race from Club, with my first wife to be)

There was a little Grandstand there a few years later. Somewhere I have a picture of Hill in a Brabham taken from that spot.

There was Alan, correct. Also one the other side of the club straight in the BRDC enclosure before the hospitality boxes were built. I watched the '71 'Woolmark' British GP from that area.

I was at Becketts. Jackie Stewart waved at me when he came past after the race on the back of a trailer biggrin.gif

Siegfried wasn't known as 'Sideways Sid' for nothing and was probably under Norman's feet a split second later!

So named after Sopwith's father's yacht used in the Americas Cup, pre-WW2, IIRC.

I knoe that this is not an 1960,s photo, but I thought I would give the Rally Fans some photos from the early 1970,s. The photos are from the 1973 Daily Mirror RAC Rally and taken in SS 40 Grizedale Forrest. This shot is car No. 35 of Eeva Heinonen and Selia Saaristo driving a 1986cc Volvo 142. The ladies team finished !st in the ladies section.
I have something like 7,000 rally photos from 1971 up to present day from The RAC, National Breakdown, Cartel, Talkland, Audi, Pirelli, York, Cumbria, Lakeland, Mintex, Malcolm Wilson, Gibson's of Brock and last but not leased The Roskirk Stages Rally.

Superb photos Norman, I love the Alpine, which of course Ove Andersson and Jean Todt shared on many events, such a devastatingly fast car for a 1600 cc pushrod engine! The Volvo, great memories of watching Per Inge-Walfriddson drive one of these, faster than their makers had ever imagined, sideways did not come into it eek.gif None of this fancy, all wheel drive, trick diff stuff, spectator joy!!!

I had forgotten about Harry Ratcliffe and the blown Cooper S. Lots of old familiar names. Apologies if the file size is too large but I wanted all the info to be clear to read.

Great photos again Norman! I attended this race, and when I saw the photo, I thought Dave Buckett(IIRC front number plate MC 58), it could be him, but Roger posted the programme to confirm that I was at least on the right track!!!Notice that Matt Neal's dad is in the Equipe Arden car and the late Tony Fall in a Vitafoam Mini.Whizzo is also in the reserve list, I too have this programme Roger, if I can only find where I stored them all.... smoking.gif

Christabel Carlisle, saw her driving many times, her and Anita Taylor were superb racers up.gif

Ref: posts 58-65, this shot taken, I think, in 1971 shows the BRDC enclosure referred to.

Wonderful stuff Norman and really useful research Roger - thanks to you both. Slightly off topic but I have just been sorting a few programmes from the first meetings that I ever went to, aged 7/8 at Silverstone and Mallory in the mid-1960s, and was about to find somewhere on TNF to ask a couple of questions about particular drivers. Given the contributions to this thread, and the drivers appearing on that 1967 ROC programme, here is probably the place!
Is the 'P. Gaydon' Peter Gaydon who went on to race Formula 2? And amongst the reserves is Phil de Banks. I'm fairly sure I saw him racing fast Anglias, dicing at Silverstone with Bo Pittard. I know the sad fate of BP but did Phil de Banks carry on racing throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s?
Norman, you don't by chance have more saloon photos from the 1960s do you?
Dutchy
The Bugatti pictured is Hugh Bergel's T35T, here driven by his son Richard. This is the car now owned by Hugh Conway Jr. registered EB1926

I do not recall seeing Peter Gaydon race saloons at Brands, but maybe he did at Silverstone, and Phil de Banks I thought raced Minis in the late '60s... confused.gif But my memory is sooo poor these days!!! smoking.gif

I was overtaken by Hugh Bergel in this car on the way to the Pomeroy Trophy at Silverstone in 1972/3. It was at the last roundabout leaving Aylesbury and I saw him coming in the mirror so kept well out of the way. I didn't try an keep up, well you wouldn't, not in an Austin A30! roflmao.gif

August 1961 BARC Meeting Oulton Park Grid for the start of unlimited Sports Car Race. I am inviting comments on who the starters are ?
David McKinney
There is no August 1961 BARC Oulton Park meeting reported in Autosport
There was a 750MC/Chester MC meeting at the end of the month. Cooper Monacos dominated the unlimited sportscar race on that occasion, so if your pic is from that meeting, it is unlikely to show the front of the grid
Phil Rainford
Suggest by the fact that the bridge is within the frame of the shot means that the cars illustrated will indeed be at the rear of the field...

Right at the rear of the grid it looks as if one gentleman has taken a wrong turn out of the Spectator Car Parks eek.gif

Kind regards

Phil

I suggest it's probably Les Ballamy in his lightweight supercharged 1172 Ford Popular. He marketed a range of equipment for them including 15" wheels , independent front suspension and engine tuning bits . Might also be Jem Marsh in the wooden Marcos

I didn't think Ballamy was racing that late. ISTR Rivers Fletcher ran an LMB Pop about this time, though his activities may have been restricted to the hills. For some reason I thought Stephen Minoprio for the Marcos, but I might be too early.
Also in the shot, amongst several Lotus 7s, are a Terrier or two, and the car at the front is of course an Elva Courier.
Norman Hayes
My lat posting of the assembled grid at Oulton Park was 26 August 1961 and was for unlimited Sports Cars, I will give you the line up as far as I can see, starting at the front No. 93 Tony Lanfranchi 1588 Elva, 113 C.R.Cutts 997 Lotus VII, 70 J.Mitchell 997 Marcos. 15 J.Corfield 1172 Terrier. 18 D.Linton 1172 Terrier. 89? if it is P.R.Stride 997 Lotus VIIF. and right at the back the car that someone suggested had taken a wrong turn from the car park is 81 B.C.S Mann 1172 Ford Popular. now don't argue with me I have taken all these names and cars from the programme, and the meeting was run by the 750 Motor Club Ltd. Chester Motor Club.

BRSCC 5000 Guineas Guards Spring Cup Races Oulton Park Good Friday 12 th April 1968
No.68 Hugh Dibley Howmet TX Turbine. One car which was ready to go after the BOAC 500 at Brands Hatch which only lasted ten minutes, had gallons of fuel sitting in England waiting to be used, so the car was a very attractive entry. Whistled into fourth place and came in to refuel after 27 laps but wiring had burnt out so could not restart.

have you got perhaps any Dagrada immages

Can anyone tell me if this car 111 is Robin Darlington driving a 997cc Brabham BT21. The photo taken by me is at Oulton Park, and I think it it is at The Peco Trophy Meeting 31 August 1968.

That shot is BRILLIANT! See the riveted patchwork around the BRM P261's radius rod anchorages - the double-decker 'two-holer' top pick-up fairing - and the vacant side-exhaust 'letter-box' in the car's engine bay horn? As plain and as individual as any incriminating fingerprint. Chassis serial '2615' as I live and breathe...
