Wow! - keep them coming...

Do your pictures cover the whole of the sixties, or just the early years? Personally, I'd love to see any pictures you have relating to the 1 Litre F3 period.

I have to tell other TNFers that I met Norman for the first time at Oulton Park a few weeks ago, having previously seen only a few of his photos in a couple of books. Steve 'pressman' Jones was scanning through part of Norman's archive on his laptop and the subject matter and quality of his photos is fabulous, and there are plenty of treats hidden away in there to delight any motor sport enthusiast - including TT pics from the Isle of Man in the sixties which the motor cycle fans on various other threads would kill for.
I look forward to seeing more.

For my frist few images in my original post the camera was a Kodak Box Camera, the images were on 3 1/4 inches x 2 1/4 inches.

The camera i was using for these pictures was a Kodak Folding Camera 120. Which was 2 1/4 square negative.

With a folding Kodak! Crikey. I have three or four of those in my collection of antique cameras. Never tried to use them, though.

Great, great, wonderful and brilliant stuff. I'll gratefully sit here and watch these great images. This thread could well rival the Aussie one, no?

The R.A.C. photos bring back great memories Norman, "I Can See For Miles" was the soundtrack used for a film of this event, great aerial shots of Roger's car, as it sped sideways through the forests, leaving plumes of spray as it went. Poetry in motion, the cars, the music, the event, it just didn't get much better than this, brilliant! The cars are relatively simple also, compared to the vehicles of today with trick diffs etc, a great period for the sport.Thanks for posting

The Hailwood photo with the mechanic is a cracker! I love the look on Baghetti's face as well.

One thing I really like about many of the personal photos shared here is the way they capture the "in-between moments" that might not traditionally feature in magazines and the like.

Norman, the Barbon hillclimb looks a little later than 64, aren't the Rolls/Bentley and Escort mk1 in the background more late 60s cars? Any from the 70s?

Must be later. The Mk1 Escort came out in 1967.

Can anyone throw any light on the car at Barbon, possibly blown Daimler V8 powered?

I think it's a Brabham - pre BT18.

John Macklin is mentioned twice in the MAC Centenary Book Ton Up. In both 1964 and 1966, he was driving a Cooper Buick.

That's what I thought, a Brabham variant, but I am always cautious about putting my head over the parapet, especially as it may have been a few years old by then, so good fodder for the hills.

It certainly looks like a Brabham to me - so not Macklin?

I think the presence of an Escort in the background means it was at least 1967, so the fact he had a Cooper Buick in 1964-66 is neither here nor there. I just thought I'd mention it though.

My point had nowt to do with Cooper-Buicks - to the best of my knowledge Macklin never hillclimbed a pre-BT18 Brabham

The Escort was launched in January 1968.

The Barbon shot is of a BT14 with a supercharged allard "dragon " engine .Its being driven by John Butterworth

Which, if it is the usual blown pre crossflow 1500 motor favoured by the Allards pere et fils , explains why the manifolds are both on the same side. Reminds me of the old Peter Meldrum days. So much for my Daimler idea.............

Nice photo, Norman. However, it appears twice - you can go back into the post by clicking on 'edit/delete post' at the bottom right-hand corner and delete the annotation for the second photo, and you can also delete the previous post where the pic has failed to load up..

Might only be 12 car field ......but it looks as if it is going to be a tight squeeze into Old Hall

Brilliant photo Norman...thinks, how could those Elites be so far back??

Because as cars eligible for the 1962 Veedol championship, the Elites had to run in single carb trim. It is 1962 not 1961 I believe, and Class C of the Veedol series. The class C cars usually ran separately from the 2 smaller classes, they probably, certainly, could not keep up in most cases with some of the smaller cars. I have checked the reports etc for the early 61 BARC meeting, overcoats indicate it was cold, so a March meeting, and the cars do not match the reports or photos. The question should be how or why is the Alpine so far up the grid. It is Unett's ex proto development car. The MGA is David Eva's 1MTW ex Dick Jacobs car, rebodied after a serious crunch the previous year with its previous owner. The white Ace is Bob Burnard's RB 38 car. Morgans were entered by W H Jones and J S Gamble, and the Healey by M J L Brooke. Not sure about the Elites as there were series entries from W A Bell, T A Crawford, B E Hampsheir, D C Jamesn Evans, E J Lee and D B Porter, so take your pick. TR3A was entered by R Entwistle and the 100/4 by John Carden and the 3000 by D J Friswell, unless reserves lists were called in.
The race was a 6 lapper, won easily by David Eva, 7 secs ahead of Burnard whose car should have been the class of the field, then Jones, Unett and Brook. W A Bell nearly put his Elite in the lake after spinning at Knickerbrook.

Great respect Roger! I did wonder how the Alpine was at the front, they were never at the sharp end unless they had Detroit Iron fitted whenever I saw them. I bet you have those Motorsports all over the lounge floor matey!!!

That photo really captures the spirit of the racing then, at Brands the Fred W Dixon championship (IIRC) was for modsports, always a great series to watch, and the GT series that featured 26Rs was always a spectacle. Bit different to the bathtubs they race now, which, as you probably have guessed, I do not care for much!

Simpler than that. I have a research file on the Veedol series.
