Just a thought... Massa has had his share, and it seems this year Kovi has had all the bad luck mechanical wize at Mclaren, retiring in the last two races. Hamilton has not had a mechanical fault all year. I don't want to temp fate, but could he be due one in Brazil? His engine will also be on it's second race; he may have to treat it with care!

it COULD be
molive
Lewis is a lucky SOB, thats why. Look what happened to his teamate yesterday.
fnz
one could say Heikki is an unlucky one
airwise
Massa one engine failure and one pit stop error. Hamilton one puncture and one pit stop error. As you say, Hamilton is one lucky SOB. I'm sure he'll have a problem in Brazil though. Don't worry.

Thanks for reassuring airwise up.gif you just made my day.

No driver is ever 'due' a technical issue. Numbers mean that they will all have the occasional technical glitch, but from race to race the chance is no higher that a driver will have an issue.

Each race is 50/50, either they have one or they do not.

By the same token, the fact that Hamilton hasn't had a mechanical failure this year is no reason to suppose he won't have one in Brazil.

I guess so. Just thinking of Sennas retirements compared to Prosts in 1989.. However I guess it is harder to be kinder to the machinery these days...

Well......

Seems no matter what I post these days I will be called a trolling fanboy.

But.........

I firmly believe that there are car-breakers and car-savers. This can not be established over one or a few seasons, and will always be very subjective, but some drivers simply driver their cars harder, and there fore get more technical issues.

I baptized Kimi a car-breaker several seasons ago, and argued that Michael Schumacher had so few technical issues by virtue of being kinder to his car. Kind does NOT equal slow, it simply mean driving it smarter. I do not think that a driver can fundamentally change how they drive a car, they can change aspects of it, but some will simply have more issues than others.

Hamilton have a short career so far, he have however only had 6 races where he did not finish in the points. So he seem to take good care of his car, ramming Kubica and Kimi at Canada is not a technical issue, as is putting the car in the gravel in the Chinese pit's last year.

Kovalainen in the same car, have been outside the points 7 times already this season. I would have to look in detail on what the various issues were, but I am certain that he will be found to have had more technical issues than Hamilton.

Both Hamilton and Kovalainen are poor examples, as they only have 2 seasons behind them, but they are both starting to build a legacy and for Hamilton it looks fast and reliable.

My arguments are always pooh-poohed, but having been around racing since the late 1970ies, and seen every season in all classes how some drivers 'never' broke down, I do not care for the pooh-poohing it is my belief and no insult of my mental capacity will change it.

I expect no technical issues for Hamilton at Brazil.

Not at all KWSM. This post makes absolute sense. It is your opinion and regardless of whether I agree with it, I can absolutely respect it. I'm also certain that you have plenty of mental capacity and don't wish to suggest otherwise. I'm sure others will agree, and I'm sorry that you feel like this.

What people pooh-pooh is your insistence that the written rules are the answer, when they are not. There is inevitably a layer of subjectivity sitting above the rules but just below the final decision, and some people want to understand how that part works. There is no absolute in this, otherwise Kimi would have started from the pitlane in Monaco, Heidfeld will have had a five place grid drops in China and Bourdais would have not been penalised at Fuji. People want to understand why there are differences. Quoting the rules and insisting that the stewards are right just doesn't explain it. I don't want to discuss these because they are off topic here, but I think it is important that you understand that the problem is not about how others perceive your mental capacity or a simple dismissal of your point.

Regarding your specific views here, I think that Kimi is pretty hard done by actually. He's not had a great season this year but then neither Ferrari has been particularly reliable. Kimi had one difficult year at McLaren with plenty of broken engines at the start of the season. The following year though, there were none. Maybe this is Neweys fast but fragile approach, since Webber now has all of Kimi's luck.

Yeah, its Newey I always said that. If your overheating engine (because of shitty cooling design) don't fail, there is always mirrors, wings and stuff.

I have just seen footage of Lewis Hamilton the artist!

He's painting. By painting I mean driving radio controlled cars of various sizes with paint on their wheels across a canvas while dressed in a skin tight Reebok jumper. His work is quite post modern...

Remarkable.

You make some very good posts. I think you maybe make people a bit predisposed to disagree with them, by putting that "cool" smilie at the end of every one. It appears always to claim what you've just said is cool. Just my 2 cents, you could easily test this theory, anyway smile.gif

That's a good point, I always find posts that have a cool smilie, cool smilie with thumbs up, or the definative 'end-of' at the bottom of each post very annoying. It does project a certain arrogance from the poster that undermines the content of their post.

It's an artist called Ian Cook who did the painting, not Lewis. Five day old news so maybe McMerc have taken the idea for a stunt in Brazil?

My favourite part about irony is when it doesn't come off properly. It creates an alternative universe in which its deployer is a jerk instead of a failure. lol.gif

Ah, OK. I just saw it on the box then.

And just as well I didn't start a new thread about it.

Great use of the catch-all Lewis Hamilton 2008 thread rather than clogging up the BB Potmotr! up.gif up.gif up.gif clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif love.gif love.gif love.gif

I wouldn't have put it past them to use Lewis in some kind of copycat stunt though, since remote controlled cars is where Lewis found his mojo.

And yes, perfect use of the thread! up.gif

Glad to see Hamlton win. or more properly, glad that Massa didn't win by less than the 6 points he was gifted by the FIA after Spa.

Massa was world champ for almost two laps. He must be gutted.
