Do you mean one of Peter Darley's Lotus Cortina pics, or the Eddie Whitham one posted earlier on this thread, Colin?

Sorry, i didnt put that very well did i? what i meant was my reply to which photo i was refering to was very lame and no better than my first posting when i asked where i could buy a copy of the photo, i will have to read it more throughly before i post! I am bringing up a four year old Autistic son on my own and i have to knock out emails etc when i get a moment and i do mean a moment hence the two poor postings already, i can only appologise and say no offence was intended.

The look on Bette Hill's face as she shows Graham what I presume are timing sheets seems to embody the stoicism of racing wives through the carnage of the sixties. How those women could wish their husbands luck as they pulled on their helmets, knowing how random were the chances of survival or disaster, is, to me, testament to love and character in heroic proportions.

I always believed it to be Roger, Barry. I thought the driver looked like him. However, Eddie has not left any details with the photos so anyone with 1960s Mallory programmes might be able to assist.

These pictures perfectly capture what I would describe as the aesthetics of that era of motor racing (i.e.1960s). The wonderful racing colours of those cars (unadorned by sponsors decals), the period adverts (Mintex, Guards, Dunlop etc) and Oulton Park looking truly park-like.
I am sure it was just as much these visuals of the sport as the actual track action that initially captured my imagination when I first watched car racing in 1963. I can just feel and smell the whole setting as if it were yesterday.

Rearding the lack of sponsor's signage on the cars, note the smiling Esso tiger's head logo affixed to the vestigal engine cover on Sir Jack's BT20 at the1967 Spring Trophy...

Claire Newbold I think. She raced an Anglia no 219 in the 1 litre Saloon race on 21st August 1965 (retired after one lap)

The choice of Ektachrome over Kodachrome undoubtedly was influenced by the ability to process Ektachrome anywhere, even at home, while Kodachrome had to be sent to a Kodak facility. For a newspaper photographer, processing time was critical. Other factors were that Ektachrome was about a stop faster (ASA 100 instead of 64, important when shooting at high shutter speeds on dim days) and yielded more shadow detail (less contrast), which can be appreciated in these great photos. I never did it, but I think Ektachrome could also yield good black and white prints with a lot less fuss than Kodachrome (which, I recall, required an internegative).

Great pictures as usual - thanks Alan, thanks Eddie.
What I find delightful is that in every non-action photograph people are either smiling or they look happy!

You are welcome...and the two Anglias in the wet in the picture sequence you originally posted a couple of years ago are no 9 Terry Drury leading no 10 Chris(?) Jackson. Again the BARC meeting on 21st August 1965
The young lad between Jack Brabham and Jean Stanley at the 1967 Spring meeting is I think Jacks son Gary who joined his dad on his lap of honour. I had a photo of them returning to the paddock with Gary wedged in the cockpit of the BT20.

Could the white Anglia be that of Terry Drury? I only ask because being a regular at Brands Hatch at the time I can remember the car quite well and it just looks right. However I am also sure that there were drivers in the North East doing similar things to their cars as Terry was.

PS 'Elf 'n safety would be having an apopleptic fit if it saw such irresponsible goings-on at an event in the 21st century. How could a three-time World Champion ever countenance placing his son at such risk? The poor child should be taken into care immediately

Roger Nathan raced at Mallory on the 27th June 1965 with his Imp carrying race number 72 so it surely is him. He finished 4th with Paul Tomlin's Mini no.67 5th which corresponds with the Mini that is following him in the photo which is numbered 67.
