Next season I plan to visit a few GPs as part of my travels, all timed to follow F1 around.

As I begin to plan/save accordingly, I need some info on costs.

Ticket prices mainly, but any other costs I need to consider. I know accomodation is usually hell around GPs, my plan is to buy a campervan to travel around Europe in, so hopefully that will take care of that.

Interested mainly in:

Italian GP
Monaco GP
British GP
Spa (European? or is that Valencia next year? Belgian GP?)
Canadian GP

Any anything else you lot can suggest smile.gif

Silverstone can vary from about £115 for General admission to £289 for a covered grandstand seat at Luffied, which allows you to sit anywhere on Friday and Saturday.

Camping costs for silverstone also vary from £20 per person per night at Litchlake up to around £150 for 4 days at Whittlebury.

My favourite European race experiences so far are Belgium and Monza last year, and plan to do Monza again this year. For the thrifty traveller, these can be quite cheap. It'd leave the campervan at home and take a tent though...

Monza:
From London, fly to Milan on one of the budget airlines. Return flights will cost you around 80 quid if you book early enough. You'll be going out of Stanstead so add another 24 for a return ticket on the express. Monza is 20 minutes north of Milan by train. Tickets are five euros. Then a bus takes you to the circuit. I camped on a site just outside the circuit near the lesmos. Camping was 20 Euros for four days. Tent to track was a five minute walk, and there were lots of stores nearby. I bought a ticket for the first corner grandstand last minute from gumtree.com for 120 quid. To be honest General Admission (at 90 quid) would have been just as good, as there are many, many good vantage points around the circuit. Monza is set in a beautiful public park and there are few things quite as lovely as watching F1 cars on a late summer afternoon under leafy trees. Also, on the Friday every grandstand is free to GA holders so you can move around all of the famous corners. Food and booze is quite expensive in the circuit, but you can bring in everything you need no problem. If you do this I reckon you could do a three day Italian GP weekend for less than 250 quid ex London.

Belgium:
We drove from London and took the ferry to France then drove to Spa. I think a hundred quid covered the ferry and gas return. We camped near Arnage. I think this was about 50 Euros. We took general admission tickets and had a great vantage point on the long straight exiting Eau Rouge but pretty much moved around all parts of the circuit during practice sessions. GA tickets were around 100 Euros. Because Spa is so long they don't appear to have enough spectator marshals to control where you go. So if you disappear into the forest you can pop up most places and have a great view. Again, if you take in your own food and booze you can save a lot of cash. And GA is a good option. So I think the Spa weekend cost me about 250 quid all up.

So, I did two GPs on consecutive weekends for under 500 quid, all thanks to a tent and not buying booze and food inside the circuit.

Hope this helps, enjoy!

Canadian GP ticket prices start around $300 CDN for a package.

Too bad there is no US GP - a 3 day package (which actually was 4 days because you got into the pit walk on Thursday too) cost about $90.

Italian GP: If you want to camp get to the parc with like a week in advance if you are going to get General Admission otherwise you won't be able to see anything. biggrin.gif If you are planning on getting reserved seats, be prepared to pay a lot. I was at Alta Velocita C and I have to say that the tickets were expensive but worth every cent, best view I've had in 5 different GPs I've attended so far.

Canadian GP: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go for General Admission, you will be really frustrated if you do. Did it twice and regret it every time. I had GS 22 last time I went and it wasn't bad. Hotels in Montreal during the GP will break your wallet. I can fly to Europe roundtrip for what I would pay for 4 nights of a decent hotel in Montreal.
