HaHa Stewart lagged to let Busch get a jump, holding off Ambrose and JPM. Good teamwork I guess,
OfficeLinebacker
Truex got by on the restart (Marcos hugging the inside, MOntoya stayed outside)

Monty got him right back tho. he he

Nice stuff, JPM & Truex up.gif
OfficeLinebacker
Chrome horn. beep beep, comin' through!

Also did I just see Monty brake test Truex? Good stuff (I say this cos Truex knocked him out fo the race last year, not much is out of bounds for Monty IMO).

Ambrose gunning for 2nd, JPM closing in...
OfficeLinebacker
I'm 90% sure T-Stew is blocking for his teammate.
Gilles4Ever
43rd to 3rd - impressive

Well done Kyle up.gif What a race.

Good race....Good finish.

I'll have to rank them.

Sprint Cup at Watkins Glen
IRL at Kentucky
Nationwide at Watkins Glen

But they were all 3 awesome races.

I'll have to up that to about 98%

Payback for the 5 points I think?

Too bad for JPM...he might have been the one with chances to challenge Kyle in the end, but never had the track position. Stewart manages to keep 3rd place...just. Congrats to Marcos: from 43rd to 3rd and last lap battle with Stewart and Montoya, wow! Good job by Kyle, although I feel rainout played into his hands. Both Ambrose & Montoya had to make compromises with strategy, in order to climb up.

Quite a lovefest between Kyle and Tony.
OfficeLinebacker
I believe Kyle Busch is the first driver in NASCAR history to win three road courses in one season. Of course it includes lesser series.

Also, Ambrose--no clutch, no brakes left, older tires by 2x than anyone around him. The man is a true talent. I can't wait to watch him race a road course again.

I knew Kyle was going to be hard to pass--don't forget he came in second with a blocked radiator and the toe knocked all to hell on his car yesterday.

Great end to the race! JGR showing that they are coming together as a team.

JPM might have gotten 3rd if he hadn't messed the restart and got beat by Truex......briefly.

JGR were impressive today, the teamwork was good.

Yes, I belive that given the opportunity to qualify on time, JPM & Ambrose would have had a way better chance. It would have been cool to see some of the other cool roadies like Max Papis qualify up front, too.

That said, I don't think anybody was going to beat Kyle Busch. He is just that good.

The only guy I rate as good enough to pass Kyle when the race is at stake is Ambrose. Other than that you're just going to trade bum 'n' runs back & forth and it's down to who does it last.

The surprise of the race to me was Jeff Gordon--they just missed it on the setup. Pretty shocking to me.

Here's to Kyle Busch, can't take anything away from him.

Note he also clinched the top seed in the race with this win. So he can coast for the next few races and then be in first for the playoffs.

My dream for NASCAR is to see non-Americans sweep the podium. So I'll have to wait for next year to see an Ambrose-Montoya-Papis 1-2-3! roflmao.gif

Dunno. Thanks to P1 Kyle choosed his strategy, saved the car and the tyres for last laps. Meanwhile guys like Ambrose/Montoya were forced to compromise strategy and take everything out of their machinery.

To me Marcos & JPM still are the best roadie guys. Kyle is extremely talented, but he is also in the best team ATM. If Marcos/Juan/Kyle swapped cars, would Kyle end up on top with 42 or 21? I doubt that...

Gilliland turns into McDowell's quarter panel, triggering The Big One.

From the back and side views they showed it looked like Gilliland was already off track and almost into the wall because he had been shoved out there. If he did turn into McDowell it might have been because he had no choice.

Nine car pile-up! Please tell me JPM was not part of that.

Thanks to the Olympics we have no live racing in Canada.

No, Gilliland, McDowell, Hornish, Labonte, Blaney, Papis, Waltrip, Nemechek were the main ones.

I'd love to see him try!

Remember IROC? They should bring that series back and run a support race at The Glen!

Yeah, I remember IROC. Basically NASCAR with equal cars. Maybe it should be one-off, with significant prize money? You know, to lure international participants. For roadie, they might get some ex-F1 and sports car guys. Many years ago Martin "Billy Bob" Brundle participated. Mark Martin still talks about that Englishman who finished 5th in his oval debut, whipped the rest on roadie and started from pole in last race. I think Rusty Wallace took MB out, effectively handing Dale Sr the championship.
John B
The obvious one liner is it's basically IROC now with the COT biggrin.gif

I wasn't surprised about the big one in the last turn, though I've always expected it to take place in the esses between the guardrails at the start of the race. Not a lot of room for a pack of cars to go if/when someone gets turned there.
BMW_F1
I watched 3/4 of the race last night. Both Juan and Ambrose were great, I wish they would have shown more of their passes on TV, I hardly saw one from Juan. I think JPM overtook some of the top drivers twice on track.. (Hamlin, Harvick, McMurray, Bush, Kahne).... Kyle is some talent, he is beating Stewart even on road courses.. eek.gif
OfficeLinebacker
I think Juan is still enjoying some of the intimidation factor from lots of the drivers. For example Truex, Jr was faster than he at the end of the race (boy, he's a heck of a driver, too!), but Juan punted him and then brake-checked him. I think Truex decided that it wasn't worth five points to lock horns with Montoya.

Funny, when he spun Kyle Busch under a caution I really thought it was a boneheaded move. But it actually served to cement his place in the other drivers' imaginations. When your life, several hundred thousands worth of machinery, and several thousand dollars worth of prize money are at stake, you don't mess with someone who is crazier than you. Juan obviously doesn't need the money, and drives like he's got nothing to lose.

Payback to Truex for last year?

So, I hear both Ambrose and JPM were all out of brakes at the end. up.gif

No, not intentional payback. But Juan's conscience I don't think piped up too loud when it came to racing Truex really hard.

He also came on the radio after the race ended and said to apologize to Truex's crew, that he didn't mean to punt him and that they're 'better than that.'

Whatever, it was hard racing and who knows, maybe Truex was a little nervous and rightly so. But I think the restart was just a perfect passing opportunity and both knew he would probably get repassed before the end of the race.

Hey, Truex should be counting his lucky stars that he isn't Montoya's team mate!
OfficeLinebacker
Turns out Juan's car was fine. He was faster than the guys ahead of him but decided not to force the issue:

It was good call by JPM. Ambrose looked equally fast, until they both caught Stewart. He could have gone for divebomb or bumping (exploiting Ambrose“s rookie status), but choosed to race fair. There was much to lose, little to gain. Goes to Juan, Marcos and Tony. The race was handed to Kyle on silver platter, IMO. He did good job taking it, but to me the best performers were Ambrose and Montoya. In that order.

Wow @ JG. down.gif

About the worst race i've seen him run. That whole team really bottomed out in that race.

Seriously! That was a pretty major screwup for a team of that caliber.

I wish there were some other explanation, but JJ was driving well, and Jr's car was even quite good.

I wonder if it was some mistake by one of the car preparers or something.
John B
It would be poetic justice of sorts if after a very mediocre season somehow he got hot enough in the chase to beat KB and Edwards, given he's lost two titles to the format after scoring the most points in 04 and 07.
DLaw
Man, JPM has gone soft, driving for a top 5 finish? wink.gif
