That Stewart Shot is probably from Phlantzgarten 2 not from Flugplatz. It was very difficult if not impossible to take an image from that side @ flugplatz.

Also the background, bank and trees suggests phlantzgarten 2.

Everyone always assumes flugplatz, but most airborne shots at the Ring were not taken there.

I mean, these kids think that drifting is something invented in the 90s. Heck on this very thread it's revealed that Jim Clark used to intentionally set up photos of him in "a lurid pose."
There's some film footage of Graham Hill talking us around Monaco and he states part way through that he enters casino square with 'a flourish' because the crowd gets excited there. Always makes me smile.

snx you could be right, there are afaik 3 places were they took off on the Nürburgring

Panch posted this in the 'passion' thread. It is a future classic, IMO, because it encapsulates the mood of the entire season brilliantly.

That was Monza 2007, Alonso's last victory. Hard to believe really.

I love Jochen's face in that pic. I can't exactly call it an "expression." Just the set of his mouth. Great.

One of your members asked that we post his favorite GP photo, this one by Pete Coltrin from our archive, ©2008 The Klemantaski Collection. It was taken early in 1961 at the Modena Aerautodromo and is of the first Ferrari 156/F1, actually the same chassis as the prototype which was run in 1960 but now with the well-known 1961 bodywork. Standing on the far left is Ferrari's chief engineer Carlo Chiti with Enzo Ferrari sitting on the pit counter. The young Mauro Forghieri is making notes with his back to the camera.

I remember a very nice shot of Villeneuve during qualifying in Monza '98. It was in F1Racing (in the parade section) so I'm not sure if it's floating around the web. He had his inside front locked and you could see the texture of a flat-spot.

I quite like this shot. A very young Felipe Massa's first test with Sauber part way through the 2001 season.

Those Mika-Michael pictures are just great. Fierce rivalry on track, and friendly off it.

Can someone remind me what the race and circumstances were of that photo of Schumi in his jeans shaking Mika's (in the car) hand?
I'm sure i've seen it before but I don't remember.

I'm fairly sure it's Michael congratulating Mika at Suzuka in 1998. Schuey had retired early so obviously had time to change into his casuals ;).

Not all of those Michael and Mika pictures are friendly, mind ;) - I seem to recall that the Spa 2000 one was taken in the middle of Mika having a bit of a go at Michael for his blocking tactics!

Those companionship pics make me feel warm and fuzzy! I love to see the duality of great mates off track (because who else but those 20 or so guys know what it's really like to be in the cars) and fierce competition on-track.

Hey, it's well known that Europeans are more affectionate. However Finns not to much.

It kinda does look like Shuey is going in for the mouth kiss, and Mikka is kind of doing the old "nah you just get the cheek" move.

A move I with which I am all too familiar. cry.gif

It's just amazing to see how far Formula One has come, it never stops, work on the cars, new rules, new season, winter, work on the cars, new drivers, retirement, new rules, new cars, new tracks, modified tracks, new rules, new cars, new season
F1 World hasn't slept since it began.

Just a while ago it seemed, Schumacher and Hakkinen could last for years, and Schumacher would race into his 40s, and then time truely does nothing to the passing of Imola 94, there was a time when Senna's yellow helmet and f1 had to go together, as much as seeing him in a press conference, and seeing Mansell with his moustach, and Prost with his bentnose.

Won't be long until Hamilton and Alonso are retired and were old men. Life is one fast lap no driver can outrun.

Great pictures, very nostalgic

Live for the moment, on the edge of adhesion. up.gif

The very next lap Mika steamed past the Ferrari at the same spot. So after the race he laid down the law to Schumacher. No words to the press, no sulking or violence. Just a few sharp words. And Schumacher listened. Respect.

Yes. They should go back to the side placed cameras, like those from early 90s.

They seem to be using the 'over the shoulder' shots a lot more. If it weren't for the identification-colours, they may as well ditch the hoop cameras.

I thought this was interesting: Nicole Scherzinger... I don't know who the guy is (not Hamilton obviously) ....is it de la Rosa?

Now I'm getting curious, why would it be de la Rosa? Is she sort of a "special" member of team McLaren, 2008 being Lewis year and 2007 was Pedros?
