from Jim Clark Remembered: Graham Gauld, accompanied by two photographs.

There is another photo illustrating how "...he would fix the photographer with a stare, as though posing...", and another where he is either singing out loud or "... hurling some rude epithet at (the photographer)..." . It is possibly this last one that you are thinking of?

Perhaps. I have it somewhere on my computer, but I am afraid to post it (and get the copyright gestapo on my back!)

I think it may also be the one John B is referring to, but it was actually taken in 1962, not 1960.

Clark spooked by the Spa track, scared the crap out of him, but he was damn good at it, but back then it was frightening in those cars, that's the expression on his face.

Senna that whole weekend had it's destiny spooked look on him.

Anyone have a picture of Jimmy in the works Lotus Cortina aiming for the photographer, on full opposite lock....brilliant stuff clap.gif or maybe Ronald Peterson, at 150mph through the old Woodcote, rear tyres screeching, flicking it onto opposite lock eek.gif I was at Silverstone that year, it was awesome, something so very special biggrin.gif

MY ALL TIME FAVORITES, WIN AT ALL COSTS smoking.gif It won't ever get better these two in my view.

On the left, the mentally driven Schumacher
On the right the emotionally driven Brazilian
Rain Masters
Hate to lose
Love to win
all those drives frozen in the f1 tides of time, seemed only yesterday it was the present, now they are legends.
It's sad they won't grace f1 tracks the same way again, kinda made all other drivers less interesting.

Thanks for the memories champs.

Obviously I'll never forget that day, at least I didn't bother to watch the rest of the rest. You see a pic like this and his facial expressions before the race on video and feel like shouting 'get out of there' but if he did he would have probably got hell for it. At least he would have been alive. Even though it was obvious he was uneasy before the race I'm sure he didn't know what was ahead which was a good thing.

Anyway this is of topic and I'm rambling silly (boozy) me.

Anyway some of these photos are awesome I have to say especially Hakkinen Flying, the 4 80s legends and especially the glowing BMW I love that, really love that captures why I totally love F1 and motorsport and will do till the day I die even working alongside football mad Glaswegian.

Can we have more pics from the 50s/60s please? Its not World Championship but the 30s are brilliant pics of that please!!

There's a great headshot out there somewhere of Keke which the local magazines used in every driver profile of him twenty + years ago... he's got the 1,000 yard stare happening, and an inverted V of cigarette smoke billowing from his nostrils; quintessential Keke...

Loved the shot of Lauda too...

And the 312T5 shot of GV on lock will ever be a favourite...

My other favourite (which I cannot find on the net ) in the shot of Johansson in his Ferrari exiting Rascasse Monaco 1985 , with a big turbo-flame-out.

I would love to see it again..

He used to own a Kart track here in Indianapolis and there was a huge framed picture of that in the lobby. It was awesome and I searched several times on the net but never found it either.

Let's see here:

One or more tyres on grass/dirt: check
Big cloud of dust/debris from same: check
Opposite lock: check
Evil handling car (redundant but still): check
Sparks: check

I'd say that pretty much meets all criteria for awesome.

Absolute insanity: look where those 2 spectators are standing! looking at these pictures, i can't help to think that the lack of safety did make the sport incredibly spectacular, a tale of heroes.

Looking at the cockpit of the 80's ferrari (posted above)... it shows that all the electronics were in the drivers brain. Look at the cockpit dials: watertemp, revs, oil and fuel... that's all. Call me nostalgic but nowadays you can take any playstation fool, put him in the gym, educate him about exactly where the limits of the car are and how not to overdrive, and put him in a car.

Back then it was about real men, their talent and courage.

Thanks, Yes it is Brands (Druids) and I got the shot during the first A1GP weekend there in 2005. I'm not sure on car or driver details or history I'll have to check my records at home.

BTW Rolf even though Kimi and Fred hadn't earned them yet I think this foursome score slightly higher don't they? wink.gif (they also did ten on the bounce between them)

That's a very poignant photo, Schumacher and Hakkinen both conversing with the heirs to their respected thrones.

Allegedly Mika and Michael used to chat to the bakcmarkers and "instruct" them on how to let them though when they were gonig to be lapped later in the day. But I'm sure there was some other teaching going on that day too.

Try going to http://www.sutton-images.com/ and in the search box type cata10038a.jpg

You can then buy it as different sized prints or canvas.

Best thread ever. That pic of Gilles with his rear wheel on the grass is unbelievable. I also love the one of Nikki flying in the Ferrari at Pflanzgarten (I think that´s where it must be). up.gif

The pick of James Hunt is like something taken from every mans wildest dream:
Winning an F1 race;
Chilling on the car, beer and smoke in hand;
An absolutely stunning readhead in a GOLD jumpsuit sitting next to you, waiting for you to finish the beer and smoke so that you can take her to the nearest suitable location and get her out of said gold jumpsuit up.gif

What a man. Hunt must have seen and done more in his 45 years than the majority do in a lifetime.

The thing is, look at MS's body language. He's leaning in, clearly expressing interest in Alonso.
Hakka is looking is looking contemplative, as if he's in deep thought over what's being said.

Now, it might just be two guys in full on "How To Win Friends and Influence People" mode, but it's obviously not a "master-servant" scenario.
