I hear you. I really love Spain but have always found Valencia hot, dusty and tatty. It's nothing on Madrid or Barcelona.

Don't agree, the track just looks so steril. They need to improve on that part bigtime.

The track is utter crap. Maybe it is fun to drive, maybe it even creates great racing, but obviously the place has as much style or character as a toothbrush. Shame, as Valencia seems to be a really nice city. Someone screwed up royally. No idea if it is Tilke, FIA's safety standards or the local politicians, but the track as it is provides simply no fun to watch. Thumbs down.
I hope you don't comment later on about the race. Have fun having a walk tomorrow afternoon.

If they would let the cars drift to the walls like in Monaco, Long Beach, Detroit... it would be an amazing track. But they put curbs meters infront of all walls, how dull is that

Jackie Stewart just summed it up on ITV: "Monte Carlo is a harbour. Valencia is a dock."

Spot on Jackie. What a waste of a weekend.

I don't think it's a waste of a weekend, but they do need to improve the look for TV. It looks dusty and scrappy at the moment. They need more colour on the walls.
I think Valencia's problems will be when a car goes into those walls at 315kph.

I'm impressed by the enginners, architects and urbanists showing us their expertise here.

Maybe the should take the advice for once?
It just needs a bit of paint here and there to make it a lot more attractive already, it's an easy thing to do.

Silverstone is not a farm, it was a run strip for ww2air craft, eg: hangers straight

It was a farm before that.

How far do you want to go back? Valencia was a beach not a dock.

But Silverstone still refers back to it's beginnings hence Farm, between Abbey and Bridge.

They
really need some help in giving it the final 10% finishing touch. It would be better than Monaco after that ;)

I think JYS had it spot on. It does still feel way too industrial, especially with all the cranes (are some left over from construction? Obviously the cranes for the container ships can't really be taken down ;))
But that's no bad thing really - it's Valencia's first year and I think I'm right in saying that some of the Tilkedromes that were panned at first are now quite liked since they've had a few years to "bed in".
Valencia definitely lacks the glitz of Monaco, but if they add some colour to the endless concrete walls, they'll go a long way to making it better - not to forget also that the 'atmosphere' round the track probably won't pick up until next year once the racing has been proven and more people decide that they "need to be seen" there.
I think the layout of the track is challenging and there are nice corners but they should show more onboards the helicopter shot and boat shot make the track look dull....painting the walls would be great idea to bring more colour.
