Silverstone, 1985 ? The bike looks like an MBA and on the back you can read 'Willi', so maybe an UK driver of name 'Williams', 'Williison' or 'Willis' - or somebody from the continent with first name 'Willi' ?

It looks like 79 to me and , although in my mind I thought he would have a Nava helmet , I'll take a guess at Olivier Chevallier

Sep 2 2008, 10:45
That's a weird one...the Pernod and RMO sponsored bike points to Roger Sibille , so does the helmet design although Roger usually used red where the helmet on this pic is light blue ???

The helmet design looks a bit like Olivier Chevallier - but it cannot be him as the pic is from 1982
The picture is from a historic race weekend for the 350cc class - the last ever World Championship race for 350cc bikes in Hockenheim 1982

Guys, whilst I appreciate that this incredible thread has evolved into much history about well known riders and many great stories for us all to enjoy, am I the only one to remember with great fondness the days of the Race of Aces at Snetterton? At that time it was THE race to see, and I recall riders like Percy Tait, Dave Degens, Ray Pickrell and Ray Knight all involved in furious racing.
Thing is, I haven't been able to find any picture of those days, Google has only info. on recent races which leave me a little cold. No criticism, but the atmosphere then was so different. You remember the crowds being MUCH bigger, and the variety of machinery so much wider that my friends and I often spent more time looking at the rows of machines that spectators arrived on,bikes like Vincents, Tritons,Dresda, Aermacchi,Ducati and many other exotic machines.
I also recall the "fashions "of the spectators, like the white silk scarves, goggles, seamens wool socks (inside our boots)the Belstaff jackets(for those who did not like the "image"of the black leather jackets)myself included.
Trying to ride around inside the circuit was virtually impossible, one of the few times when reverse cone meggas(remember them?) were useful.
Does anyone else share my memories, better still have any pictures to share,to confirm I did not dream it all?
Regards to all,
knickerbrook

Bruno Kneubühler switched from 125cc to 500cc 1986/1987 - but he had a long career so there is the chance that he did the same in the early seventies.
I can only guess - is it Dieter Braun ? And I thought I would know how Dieter Braun looks like...

OK, I don't think the Britons will recognize him without the splendid moustache he used to wear in those days ...
It is Thierry Tchernine
Indeed, scored points in 125, 250 and 500 Grand Prix

Very!!

When I find the slide I shall re do the one with the Gus Kuhn van in it, as there is a few things to see, i:e the yellow bike in background is Steve Machins... and the old vans are great.
I think I told you that I used to go to work in a Thames van that the Father in law had, when I was working on the M40 motorway Bridges, it used to use as much oil as petrol!! it ended up in a quarry beside the Motorway, (now filled in), and the license plates ended up in the concrete feature under one of the bridges... I might go and find them one day!!
