And no international 250 race either... :\

Little known facts about Paci..firstly he always had beautiful girls hanging off him and he always had a shot of whisky before setting out onto the track..!!!! lol.gif Could'nt believe it when i first saw him down a shot.

You’re right, there is no support race listed for that year. The 100-mile race must have been part of some other event. I’ll have to ask for a date, which might help.

Just looking at this Imola page and noticed that my bike won in 1987, mind you it was at Misano and not Imola, and it was billed as the TTF1 race and not the Imola 200!!

1004?

There were in fact supporting races for the Italian Championship, with the 250 won by Paolo Ferretti, iirc (I'm not going to drag out the old magazine again). I just checked, and the Italians were singularly unimpressive in the 250cc World Championship those days! rolleyes.gif

On myspace yesterday I have just been talking to a Chris Thakeray, who raced in the late 70's at mainly Bemsee Southern 67 events, had a brother Jeff who raced at the same time, do you remember them Nigel? They were from Dulwich in South London. wave.gif

You remember correctly on both counts Mr Fu. He was known as the pink panther because of his preferance for the colour pink. Never met the man personally, but he was highly regarded, not only as a rider, but also as a person. frown.gif RIP.

Morning Graham, Yeah I remember the names, but not much about them, I was only 11 in 1979.
If its the brothers i am thinking of, one of them rode a TZ and the other a CB 500 or something like that, Could that be them?

Yes Chris had a TZ then the Harris TZ 350 that was Bob Dixons, his brother also had a TZ not sure about the CB500 but possibly?
Bob Dixons 1977 bike, Chris bought it from Rivetts in Westminster? in 1978, ran it in these colours also.
Mind you might not be a Harris? but time clouds the memories? But it was this bike I have seen a pic of him on it.

I heard a very disturbing report about 6 years ago that Pekka look his own life. Is there any truth to that? I sincerely hope not. He was a real gentleman and one of the nicest guys I´ve met.
I would like to apologise in advance if this "rumour" is incorrect, but I really would like to know if there was any truth to the story.
I sincerely hope it is not true.

I was Graham, but not these swirly versions, I did the later angular striped ones.
David (DCW) might remember something about the earlier ones, which incidentally were never exactly the same. IIRC they were painted locally to the Coppock family and were something of a labour of love.

When Steve Henshaw started riding for Harold & the number of bikes in the stable increased (250-350-500-750) Steve got free paintwork from Dream Machine & they were keen on making it simpler & updating it. I was only partly to blame for the demise of this unique colour scheme that so many well known riders were associated with in the 70s. blush.gif

If I recall, the reason they were conical is there was more swept area on the linings due to their angle, and I think from memory they also had a pretty significant servo effect once applied. Whatever the case, they didn't use them for long, and they'd have been more fiddly to use, and heavier than a disc. But it was around this time they tried four carbs on a 480cc-or-so, 500-class twin. Neither idea stuck, but good to see them thinking outside the box.

Could be onto something, look here! http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/3982610/description.html

A disk brake, of the type embodying the brake disk in the hub of the vehicle wheel and especially a motorcycle wheel, having: at least one brake disk, the braking surface of which is a conical surface, which brake disk connects the actual hub of the wheel with the spokes carrying flange of the wheel itself; and at least one non-rotating brake plate, placed to the side of the hub and provided with friction pads lying on a conical surface adapted to engage with the braking surface of the disk, said brake plate being slidable along the wheel axis in order to establish or interrupt braking engagement between said friction pads and said disk, under the opposing action of fluid pressure control means and of spring return means.
