Dave Hickman turned out on a 500 Honda four special at Mallory a few times around '76-77. I think it went under the name of the "Crighton Honda" (built by Brian Crighton). It didn't do much if I recall, but sounded amazing! Anyone else remember it?

That's probably the one I remember as I thought it was Ago or someone confused.gif There were two Brian Crightons weren't there? 'Cept one was a hack and worked for MCM I think he was Brian Crichton and did a lot of their mechanics work on the project bikes they did. He may have raced an LC too?

looks like Kieron Hunt and Dave Needham in the photo?
That must have been the Marlboro clubmans round?
Roger Burnett would have been riding Pete Hardings bikes back then.
Like you say, there was some real good talent in all of the classes back then, (note 6th place in the 1000cc!)

Aaaw Shucks Nigel !! blush.gif

Went back for the Marlboro in 1983, halfshaft on the trusty Bedford CF disappeared into the bushes on a tight left hander about 15 miles short of Thruxton, hitched a lift back to Salisbury, got my mate out of bed and borrowed his tiny Mitsubishi truck.Raced back to Thruxton and missed practice ! They let me start from the back of the grid, was so pissed off that i completely took out my brain, managed to win the race and then decided i might as well do the rest of the series, which i managed to win (although i did have the benefit of getting to the circuits in time to do practice !) ohwell.gif

Remember it very well.He (Brian Crighton) told me he was building a model aeroplane, and would I like to meet him at Fradley airfield (nr Lichfield) to see how it went(we were both racing CR110s at the time). However when the van doors were opened out came this wonderful creation.Would you like a go? says he.Bugger off,I,ll kill meself, says I! roflmao.gif It was raced by Dave Gould at Darley, then by Dave Hickman. It was seriously fast for a small diesel.Based on a 400/4 as they had a 6 speed box, whereas the 500/4 was only 5.It was ultimately a full 500.Hickie told me he passed John Cowies big P&M on Sulby straight!!!!!!

I remember this one though I didn't realise it was DOHC. The MV lookalike was a 500/4 I think. Not surprised Brian used the 400/4 as the motor weighs loads less than a 500/4 and the stroke would make a big difference too. The 350/4 is basically a 400/4 and Team Hansen run one in the USA. Honda works rep on a budget.

Nice one Paul biggrin.gif

Not 100% on this but the twin cam never happened. The original was a pretty good replica of a 60s works 4,with 4 open meggas, red tank/seat and silver fairing. The one on the photo was IIRC the final incarnation.I think it all came to an end due to,shall we say,'domestic issues'.

It raced at the 1978 Shell Oils 500cc British Championship race at Donington Park. It and the 4 Valve Velocette (ridden by my dad smile.gif ) were the only 4 strokes in the race. The Velocette went on to finish a great 12th against a top class field - who needs an RG, Sparton or TZ 500! The Honda finished either well down the field, or it retired. Here is an extract from the program:

He used the "Daft Ada" helmet that I think the ACU banned for use by British riders at the time? perhaps Mike can fill in a few details...or tell me I am mistaken? (wouldnt be the first time! blush.gif ) wave.gif
Here he is at Brands in 1979 with Wes Cooley?

Right... Thought that was Gary Green as a similar helmet. So not wanting to miss out on a beer this one needed at bit of research!

It's the 1979 Le Mans 24. The bike is a GS1000 Suzuki ridden by Stuart Hodgson and Andy Goldsmith. Hodgson crashed it hence the modifications to the back.

I'll have to settle for half a pint as I haven't a clue which one it is.
graham houlihan

Roberto Pietri was in the paddock at Assen this year with another old time AMA rider Steve McLaughlin. Roberto was there to try and put together a team to run his son Robertino in the new Moto2 championship which replaces 250 GPs next year.
