No offence meant to you guys that raced these bikes, but road bikes took over top class racing from TZ750's Tr750's KR750's & RG/TZ500's and became the "main" show, when proddy racing was one of a support class to "real" race machines at a meet.
Sorry! ohwell.gif

I actually agree with you 100%
Even today no road based racer has the character of a full blown race bike, when the gp125s are gone things will never be the same again.
Its still great seeing all the pics of your old mates and rivals giving it the berries no matter what their riding biggrin.gif

Gets my vote too, although i raced many production based machines, its still the F1 Suzuki, the RG500 and the TZ and RS 250`s that gave me the biggest blast, proper bikes built specifically to do a certain job - go racing !!

Exactly, I too love seeing Gary's pics of a period I know little about, and I know its great for you guys to be reminded of those days, but somehow its not the same as the 1970's/early 80's when I used to go to meets regularly.
I suppose it goes back to what has happened to the GP250 class now, that even 20+ years a go, the manufactures wanted us to buy the bikes we saw racing in the Streetstock class, but some how the magic went out of racing for me seeing these bikes with pillion seats, numberplate holders etc wobbling round the circuits, being told by the media(MCN) this was great racing (it wasnt!!)
Not until Honda brought out the race bike with lights in 1988/89? the RC30 & Yamaha a year or so later with the OW01 & Kawasaki with the ZXR750 did racing get interesting again for me. ohwell.gif
Now the 250 class in this country appears to be making quite a revival & the 125 class is still going strong, long may it continue! ambivalent.gif

Good post PB
Especially re. late 70s/80s,that was the last time you would see top gp riders at a national or international meeting at brands etc,i well remember sheene dicing with granty and potter or at the transatlantics with lawson, mamola etc.It was great to see all the big names and teams regularly at your local circuit ,then when they stopped coming more or less after spencer crashed at donington like you say it turned into a streetbike series and it did lose its appeal.

Yes good point! I remember in 1982 at the Brands PBI, that Franco Uncini was there & he had just won the 500cc World Championship, what a nice surprise as it wasn't announced in the press he was going to be there, can you imagine Rossi doing the same thing!!? the loss of all the circuits differant International meets has made modern racing.............not quite so exciting. ohwell.gif
