At one circuit they had a womens only race, 'The Powder Puff Derby'. Wouldnt get away with that now.

Kork Ballington made his name on a very fast 500 triple. He was practically unbeatable in SA on the bike which he campaigned in the production bike class.
I can still see him rounding angels angle (what a glorious name for a corner lol.gif ) on his home circuit, Roy Hesketh, cranked over and almost invisible from the outside of the track, as he was hanging so far off the inside of the bike. He was a class act even then, in his early years. Hardly suprising he went on to create M/C history.

Borje? was a great personality always full of the joys of spring..always had a 400 litre tank in his Diesel Merc full of heating desiel with a dummy dip opening for the police...hiis Mercs would always run at 150 kph but could never stop!! Reckoned he could fill up at home and drive for 3 weeks without refueling.

To say that i was dismal by this stage of 1977 would be a kind statement. IIRC there is a picture of me in Motocourse looking at my bike beside me on the ground at Hockenhiem.1977 is best forgotten for me as it was an unhappy year that started brightly and with Sid Griffiths and Kork as my team mate. Sid was a disaster and I was worse...i can recall Sids last words to me at his office in Lye were " best you being going back to NZ or I will break your fcuking legs"..get the drift redface.gif

To right, He was a wheeler dealer, was Borge. He existed by selling anything the guys needed. One of the real characters in racing.
Sorry to hear how you were treated by Sid, Stu. Sounds like a right old bully boy.

Yes but you didn't take any notice... clap.gif

Incidentally just happened to go on the TT site ( actually curious about the Michele Duff story mentioned earlier, which I still can't find ! )

If you have time to look at these awesome photos from the Scarborough Gold Cup, you won't be disappointed

Graham, if you ever wanted to get really close to the action without an official pass, this is the place up.gif
Good to see Michael Dunlop out there too

Hi Stu and Rhodie,

Found this picture of Børge and me from Spa, think it is 1979 (its bad but the few pictures I have are all loosing the colors and sharpens).
It looks like he is on his way into my caravan to get another cup of coffee from my wife lol.gif

The dealing thing (at least the Yamaha parts) that always was going on was due to the late Franz Kroon, the Yamaha importer in Denmark at that time, him self a racer and a great great personality.
Some of his help consisted of filling your truck up with Yamaha parts (loads of it) in the beginning of the season, you sold it and then you got a share of the profits..wink.gif

Visiting him in Århus to pick up bikes or parts was always quite interesting; you better set a few days aside for the “experience”. drunk.gif drunk.gif

wave.gif It puts things in perspective Antony , 60 entries fighting for 40 odd spots on the grid eek.gif imagine it now 60 800's plus all the support sad.gif that would make about 5 to 700 people in the pits and on the grid eek.gif that would give the jobs - worth marshalls something to worry about smile.gif and health and safety would have a field day !!!!
