I just found this steve:-

Ride Out Ambassador – Phil Armes
15 June 07

In 1995 I was left paralysed after a racing accident during qualifying for the Ulster Grand Prix. Ironic that after a 14 year career, during which time I was fortunate enough to compete in eight Isle of Man TT’s, two years in the Formula 1 World Championships and numerous other big capacity class races at home and abroad, my racing career should end on a 125cc Honda. Which just goes to show that size really doesn’t matter! Anyone who has ever ridden a bike, whether it is on the road or the track, knows that there is very little to compare to the excitement, freedom and adrenaline from being on two wheels.

Generally speaking I am not one to get involved in fundraising and charity causes, but when I was contacted by Spinal Research six years ago and saw for myself the tireless efforts they are going to, both in the labs and in ‘the field’ I agreed to help however I can. So I now find myself as Ambassador for its Ride Out campaign - which aims to raise funds and awareness from within the motorcycle community.

Any support you can provide will make a real difference to the charity and the motorcycle community as a whole. It is only through your help that we can continue to fund our vital research into spinal cord repair – and get me back on a bike again!

Well, to be honest Russ, we never had a brake bench to confirm it, but that´s what someone told me, and I´m the sort who´d buy the London bridge if someone offered it to me at a bargin price. So who really knows? lol.gif

Stu I am sure I have some pics of you riding a 500 suzuki in a special frame made by ciba giegy it was at snetterton Ermmmm was a long time ago /can you confirm

We did a lot of testing at Snetterton both with the alloy and later Carbon Chassis ( once only). It was mainly getting the Chassis and WP suspension to work togeather and on occasions to test new parts from Suzuki. We spent a long time with AP testing the ISO front brake in both steel and carbon. Bloody hell, if you are broke you will do anything and testing front brakes is no fun. The ISO in Carbon was like a large runbber band. You would pull it on and it would slow you a bit but as it quickly heated it stopped you on a dime. Only raced it once at the Race of Aces I think and we had at least the equal of WG on the RS Honda. I asked the team if I could put on conventional brakes as I reckoned I had a chance but the team said "bugger off"you are here to test evil.gif

Randy turned up in the Marlboro Series in NZ (and if I recall, also the year before) as a 14 year-old entering as a 15 yr old on a 125. The second year he came back with a 250, by the time the series got to the South Island, he'd had the 250 converted to a 350, possibly by Mike Sinclair, to join the red-hot supporting 350 series. He was accompanied on these sojourns by PanAm pilot and his then-manager, Jim Doyle. Anyway he was a pretty jumped-up, precocious little kid and was also a card-carrying spoiled brat, demanding he be dressed before each race etc. Croz in those days was still only a resident hero, and amongst the rather keenly-supported social caravan that accompanied the Series, which was four or five meetings in as many weeks in a NZ summer, somewhere, sometime, someone had had enough of Randy's brat behaviour, and Croz flushed Randy's head in a toilet to quieten him down a few notches.

Impossible to say, but to me there's always been the suggestion that a few years later, when Randy had the power of veto over his team mate, there was the opening of a window of opportunity for revenge.... smoking.gif

Perhaps Peter D, or Stu can confirm....

What, rider's harbouring a grudge!?. Hopefully, Stu will expand on that and the toilet incident.

As for Croz, there are a lot of people waiting for his promised book to be published. Some, no doubt for what should be pages of entertaining stories; others for a chance to consult their lawyers! Will try to get an update on where it's at.

Pretty accurate about the Marlboro Series ( I had to look after randy for a while and we have remained friends) but I think it was just moreabout trying to beat each other in a team sense than the head down the dunny issue.
