The bonus being that you were right too mad.gif, I don't remember 'The Tinkler' having those horrible red and yellow Shell leathers, I can rememeber him having the black and white Shell ones.

Increased back pressure to generate full sonic resination through the expansion chamber, or something like that! tongue.gif

Thanks for that Nigel & Phil, Bills 'spannie' is very strange, as in a really long end piece, compared to other TZ750's I snapped on that day, all but one seen before I think, but interesting I think to see how each team/rider tried something different. All pictures taken on the same day.
RobH if you have found us on here, perhaps you can give a brief explanation maybe?

I'm pretty sure the key to the variation is the year. I am by no means technical, but if you think of the long thin tube on the end of the expansion chamber, then the silencer or can sliding over this...When they made silencers mandatory some bikes still arrived new from Yamaha without them. It was (for a period) a great opportunity for engine builders & exhaust specialists to try all sorts of variations in search of the optimum.
I think the TZ250 & 350F lowboys were the first production Yamaha to arrive with the aluminium can that bolted on to flange at the end, which would be around 1980, IIRC

Hiya, not sure if anyone might be able to help me out here. I'm looking for any photos of a rider I used to help out in club/national racing back in the late 70's. His name is Mike Wilson. He used to race a TZ350, at places like Wroughton, Keevil, Lydden.

Many thanks, Boz

Hi Boz wave.gif and a belated welcome to the forum .Right been looking at a couple of NGC progs , your friend Mike was fairly useful I suggest up.gif I see he was not to far away from me in Plymouth / Southway is this correct ?? eek.gif as I am just up the road outside Exeter !!! Are you in the same area ?? Sorry I have no piccies phil
Boz
Hi fil2.8. Yes, he was from Plymouth. Unfortunately, i've lost touch with Mike, but they were great times. We were all in the same club, of which one member was Mike Grainger, of GT Motorcycles fame. I am from that area, but I'm a few miles away in the USA now

Hi Boz wave.gif

I remember your mate Mike Wilson very well! He was a regular at Llandow in the seventies and rode a green Norton twin to very good effect, before he got the TZ. If I recall correctly, didn't he have a bad accident?

He did have a bad one. Ironically, it was his last race before he intended to call it a day if I recall.
Boz
I'm sure we must have bumped into each other Phil. Not quite sure what happened to Mike's Norton, but I think that one of the other club members took it on. Richard Drew I think it was. As to being in the US, well thats a result of a few twists and turns that have seen me move what seems like all over the planet in the last year or so :\
