The works bikes ran Mag 38's whilst the proddie stuff had the same in 34. We bored 34s to 35.2 or so IIRC and Alloy 38's a lot of the time as well as conically bored cylinders, lightened cranks and every other thing you could think of. Oddly though, some just were bloody fast out of the box without being touched!

Hi Stu
I stand corrected 34’s not 36’s must have been Jeff mechanic taking the piss... due to every time we met up after they did the gp’s always got the latest goss on what people were trying, they must have been on the ferry back to the uk and trying to think a way of taken the piss with some joke carb’s!!

Just a thought smile.gif How many of you would like to see a return of the old setup of Gps ie:- 80 cc 125cc 250cc 350cc and 500cc to get a decent weekend of racing for the poor old paying public rolleyes.gif

I agree - the 80cc class passed past me totally though we did have some races at Silverstone (Ian Mc won them, I think) but the 250 and 350cc classes were often fantastic - except for when Kork Ballington or Anton Mang were running away. Snett and I used to go early Saturday morning to watch the final practices before sunday. A terrific scrum for grid positions and a full day's riding - there were sometimes racing too.

I guess part of the current set up requires a lot of time to psyche yourself up in the pits AND for the cameras to be seeing you do it, and not spend time recording racing.

Funny there was always something contraversial or different about the British GP (and that often applies to the cars too) whether it's a crash (Croz taking Sheene off - Barry crashing on a test day) or wet weather - Steve Man ships win on intermediate tyres, this years moto GP.

Sorry , missed the full post rolleyes.gif , but could not agree more , let's cut out these crap classes , not just on the GP level either , and the hype and bull-shit which goes with it , mad.gif , you can still have the professionalism , cut out the huge crews and back up , as it is there is very little or no chance of anybody other than the chosen few from joining the elite , where as in the days of the Continental Circus you had a chance , if you were good enough , not if you were pretty , said the right things , and had your hair jelled and glued eek.gif with the sun-glasses on top , no matter what the weather rolleyes.gif

Suzuki XR70 RG500, square 4, with reed valve and the factory chassis. Dave Petersen on board, and it's actually his bike from 1986. Picture taken at Turn 1, Zwartkop Raceway, South Africa, Sunday 30th January 2010, again I took the picture and I was also looking after Dave. Great two points LC, Sheene panicked at Copse grabbed to much front brake & was off,( I have watched the video so many times to see what happened) & yes Steve Manship did win GP, but the ACU could not have an unknown win the 500GP so a bemused Kenny was awarded it. ohwell.gif

Machine history as well if you can....

1985 Suzuki GSX-R 750, built by, amongst others, me, for Granty to ride in and win the Superstock series that year. Won the first four races of the series. Pretty stock really but pretty fast. Now owned by Tony Salt and ridden by him here. Turn one Zwartkop Raceway, Soth Africa, Sunday 30th January 2010.

The manufacturers just arent interested in two strokes, as far as they are concerned its all over, four stroke racing bikes (sorry to metion the F word Phil !) are what they want to race in the hope that the punters will buy their roadgoing products.

Steve I agree withe what you say about (The manufacturers just arent interested in two strokes) all they are interested in is WONGA,LODSA MONEY, and thats all.................. the punters can go to hell, what I said was that basically you had a full weekends racing and all classes 80 125 250 350 and 500 and this made for a great spectator sport and was well worth the price of a ticket
