Looks like a really rough surface.
Gentleman have returned from Phillip Island, where i tried to kill several brain cells.
I wish to pose a question, after staying with Harald Bartol on the weekend, my son found out that Harald had 13 podiums in his career, without winning a GP. Who would hold the record for most podiums without winning a GP?????
HEMEYLA
Record holder could be Heinz Rosner, active in GP racing from 1964 to 1969 with M.Z. 125-250 and 350ccm.

46 times in the WC points, 26 podiums, 12 times 2nd and 14 times 3rd place.

Top year was 1968, competing in 3 classes, with 12 podiums.

PaulMB
How about most wins, podiums, titles without riding in a GP? (Although of course he was a rider orginally).

Gerry Burgess?

Well, you'd have to consider Kel Carruthers, Arturo Magni, Nobby Clarke, Fiorenzo Fanali........wink.gif

I think you're right David, this could be the first time out on that bike too...Your Dad would know this, probably better than me, but when Steve first got Kevin's old 750, apart from being dead chuffed of course, he was at a loss how to set up the suspension. At Darley it was so rough, you didn't really want to pogo down that back straight. Mind you he wasn't unfamiliar with (one of his phrases) "bucking & weaving" having spent a few years selling Kawasaki road bikes ;)

Hi Graham

Yes it is Bob Smith (that is what prompted me to post), but I don't know who is behind Steve, although it is a fairly distinctive helmet. Will have a look to see if I can find the program.

Yep, without doubt (and an Aermacchi early in the year, if I recall), but I was thinking about his time as a wrench.... clearly outside the terms of the enquiry, and I've since given myself an uppercut, and a couple of short rips to the body..... btw, gotta love that glasswork on the Exactwelds, lovely stuff.

If I recall correctly Kel's factory 350 Aermacchi was bought by Syd Lawton and was the bike Alan Barnett rode so well in the '70 Junior TT. Carruthers was surely good enough to have won multiple world titles, and probably would have done, had he arived in Europe five or six years earlier.
