Barry is still busy in Ireland; George I met again in 1998/9 at Kyalami as he lived near Johannesburg but Ricky McMillan told me he saw him recently in the UK, so maybe he is back; Mark has been with the Honda GP team for a very long time and can be seen in Pedrosa's team; Graeme I never knew very well so no news on him.

And I thought I was the only one who bought MCW up.gif , a far better read than the MCN , which IMHO , was Motorcycling's version of ' The Sun ' rolleyes.gif and still is !!

Now I say "I wish"but when I quit I just had to get rid of everything and move on. That included 5 or so RG500's which i sold for peanuts on behalf of Guan Hoe my Malaysian Sponsers. Occasionaly I have thought about getting one but time, space, family and so on has held me back. The RG's I have seen in Aus have been functional but not perfect like the ones we see on this forum. The excitment of opening a crate with a shiny new RG in it stays with me smile.gif

I found that MCW rather than MCN was much better for me personally Phil ... up.gif

With regards to Barry Sheene on the Yamaha in 1972, IIRC did he not have several bad crashes and one which was attributed to a Yamaha mechanic not putting something back together correctly? Stalling his career which had gone unabated until ‘72?

Here are a couple of shots taken at Scarborough.....

The second was just an action shot at the Mount side hairpin during a wet meeting, The Gold Cup I think in 1978. For Practice MCN had set up a speed trap just after the 'third jump' on the way down to the finishing straight. I stood next to the guy who was working it and as the top riders went through he was calling out the speeds. IIRC it was something like; Mick Grant 136.ish mph, Wil Hartog 134 ish mph, Steve Parrish 130 ish mph etc. They were all getting their front wheels air born of course. Barry came next through on one lap with the bike almost stood up on end and the rear wheel clear of the ground...

The guy from MCN said: 146 ish mph. He was almost on every lap 10 mph quicker than the next fastest guy through the trap and with full wets. My admiration for Barry went up a lot that day.. Again, IIRC before the meeting, I managed a lap on my GS750 Suzuki road bike that I had gone to the meeting on and I had to put my foot down going round the mount side hairpin as in the shot above - it was either that or a three point turn... rolleyes.gif roflmao.gif roflmao.gif

It's just come to me why Nigel's there; Spa is in Belgium where they have very good beer!! And in shorts, just for a change; Nige does love to have his knees free.

I used to live in Uckfield, East Sussex, a couple of miles up the road from Nige. I came across him once in the queue at Tesco with a pack of lard (worth a few pennies) and nothing but a 50 pound note (100 pounds in today's money) in his hand, saying "This is really going to piss them off!!". I think Alex must have sent him out, away from his bikes, and he was going to take it out on someone, whatever!
