Morning,

All the first shipment of RG500 MK1's had an oil pump with the oil held in the chassis. By the time we were running them in NZ xmas 05, we had removed the oil pump at the factories request. Just upped the oil/petrol ratio. That was some time ago!! We were using Castrol R or Shell and it was always hard to keep the oil and gas so it was plenty off acetone..sure helped when we were able to use a quality synthetic product ( Belray IIRC ).

Alright alright, stop picking on me...1975, just seems like yesterday redface.gif And FYI we had the first proddie RG's in the world . ran my first one at the 1975 Indonseian GP. The factory brought 3 down for BillY Horsman, John Boote and Hendra Terapusa ( President Sudharto's son in law ). Hendra was scared shitless of the bike and decided to pass on the ride. I had my RG500 Mk 3 and was going ok so I was offered the ride. Great day...

confused.gif I don't get that last bit Stu . Or do you perhaps mean the factory had brought 3 new production RG's and that you had come with your ....TR 500 Mk 3 maybe ? I'm not trying to play the smart ass there, I'm genuinely confused .

Just seen that pic of one of life´s great gentlemen, Max Wiener.
I attended a race meeting at the Salzburgring about 10 years ago, and, as I had a bit of free time the following day, I thought I would make a point of visiting Max, who I hadn´t seen for over 15 years. I bumped into a mutual friend at the track and told him I intended visiting Max the following day, and asked if Max still had his Alfa dealership. I was shocked to learn that Max had been killed in a car accident only 5 days earlier. What a terrible shock that was. Evidently, he was travelling at a high rate of knots in his highly tuned car, when a tractor exited a side road in front of him. frown.gif

Sorry, I meant TR500 Mk3..that was a good bike, at the time.I recall one year in Indonesia I think about 1976 I was at suzuki Indonesia's warehouse and all the TR500 parts were outside in a cage rusting away...I had the option of taking what i wanted but couldnt be bothered..hindsight is great!!

Interesting picture, this was the Chinese copy/replica of the Schirtfinkle MK2 the MOTOBI, unfortunately the sign writers had got the wording round the wrong way and it should have been I BOTOM.

Well, I never raced against him because I never competed at that level (midfield national level at best for me I´m afraid blush.gif ) but I did see him many times and he was one of the fastest riders I´ve ever seen. Incredibly stylish as well. He won the 350 world championship at his first attempt in 1975 on a works Yamaha entered through the Venezualen importer, Venemotos, when he was 19. He also won the 750 world championship in 1978, so it would be unfair to say he never repeated his earlier successes. An interesting fact is that he posted 12 pole positions in 27, 500 GP starts. Very impressive indeed.

I was history in 1986, so what happened to it? From the pics it looked like a great project. Why did it not succeed? Or did it? I can´t recall ever hearing of it though. confused.gif

It ran in British Champ's in 87/88 lap record at Thruxton&Brand Hatch, sponsorship from Dianetics didn't seem popular with ACU,they also lacked interest in a British built bike so the bikes were shelved for 20 odd years until Guy Pearson(Exactweld) decided to rebuild one for classic racing this year, I was fortunate enough to parade the bike at Donigton earlier this year.A mate of mine Barry Neal races it, Gary Noel was the orginal rider who won the European championship on an earlier Yamaha engined Exactweld in 84.

Check out another shot of complete bike http://msrphotographic.co.uk/html/photo_page_296.html

Johnny Ceccotto was a very good rider, think he burst onto the scene at Daytona, he was quick.
Never really encountered him in the 750 class, the factory bikes were usually way too fast for the rest of the field. Did have a battle with him once in Assen 350, maybe 1980, it was the first GP i ever led, if only for the first 2 laps, then a few guys past me, Ekerold, Fernandez and someone else, then Ceccotto past me , tried to stay with him manage a lap or 2 to not lose ground then his bike shit itself, but those 2 laps opened up my eyes on how to ride quickly. Make no mistake he was one the fastest guys around at that time, in any class. When you can win against the likes of Roberts, Baker , Sheene etc you are good.
Mick Robinson
It consistantly gave 76bhp back in 87/88, Yamaha g/box&clutch, modified rotax cylinders. Cranks, head, cases their own.

Where is everyone!!

As it's so quiet and the seasons finished i'll hopefully post a bit more.

First of all i'll admit it was me who rode brands on the saturday crmc meeting without the front wheel spindle nut. blush.gif
I did notice it was loose after snetterton with the bikes in the workshop but then what with taking the top ends off of both bikes and fitting a new radiator to the 750 it kinda slipped my mind. it passed scruitineering though! lol.gif

As an indication of how tyre technology has come on, back in the early eighties at bemsee (and national level) a good time in the rain at brands indy was just over a minute using full wets (KR144).
Using avon inters (we're not allowed to use wets at the crmc) a good few riders went under the minute at the recent rainswept crmc meeting and that is with the slower bottom bend eek.gif

Mind you, at cadwell full circuit which apart from the new silly chicane is unchanged for years, we (me!) on a tz750 have yet to break the
1min 40 bracket in the dry. Sheene did a 1min 34 in 1982 (mcn superbike championship) on a 750 yam on crap tyres.
There's no substitute for talent! wave.gif wave.gif
