Egel? Is that a nick? I thought he went by that wonderful name of Engelbert? No?

Also, I'm sure Bacher is Austrian, too.

In those days it was common that the winner of the Yamaha Cup got a 250cc race bike as price - so maybe that's the bike he is on in the pic.

Didn't Martin Wimmer win that one the year before? If so, there's quite a bit of contrast here...

Yeah, Alex rode a Cagiva for a season, but it was in the golden livery of his sponsors 'Golden Hermitite', so not sure if it was an actual works bike. Marco Lucchenelli rode one around the same time too.

Amazing knowledge clap.gif

The full story:

National 500ccm race in Helmond the Netherlands 16-05-1982.

18. "Jumping Jack" Middelburg wearing leathers from his 250/350 teammate Mar Schouten, riding an RG from Mar van Beek (#10), his team was on the way from the France GP to the Spannish GP.

14. Peter Smetsers
10. Mar van Beek
49. Gerard van der Wal
6. Johan "Bobo" van Eijk
8. Rob Punt
4. Mar van de Bosch

Boet van Dulmen won the race with Jack Middelburg second place with the old RG, so Mar van Beek could not have excuses from there on that his bike whas'nt fast enough. roflmao.gif

I used to really enjoy Gary's company as we hung out a lot. My wife and I spent a lot of time with him and his girlfriend ( what was her name?) going down to his house on occasions. I know he got himself into some strife but can I get an update on him? thanks Stu
