We did that a lot at Brands, but being a tad younger, comfort breaks were never a problem and not too often either rolleyes.gif

Its always a "Team" effort, however....

A certain Mr Glynn Redmile has had some success!
Im not sure of the stats, but here are just a few on the list...
The last three certainly lifted the crown with GR.
K Barker, SC, P Hubbard,
Nial Mac
Luca Cadalora
Wayne Gardener
Eddie Lawson
Kenny Roberts Jnr.

One of the best & a real gent. clap.gif
ex Rhodie racer
Stuart Shenton has had a fair bit of success as well, hasn´t he.
Know he had a hand in Korkie Ballington´s world titles, and maybe a few more. Anyone?

Agreed, a real trooper and as in the nxt post I also reckon Stu Shenton is a star..hes had to put up with the worlds biggest wanker ( AG) and been able to push a few world champs over the line as well!!!

A big call Stu, and against some fairly highly-credentialled opposition, but you were there, and even though you can't tell the tales, we've no reason to think otherwise, particularly in light of subsequent events on the Gold Coast.... sad.gif

Slightly off topic, but period non the less.

Worth watching the Film about Kiwi Burt Munro.

A great real life story & I learnt a few things like.......

A fair few road racers were pretty good engineers/mechanics.
But which ones were not mechanicaly minded? Just for interest?

Any ideas?

One rider who comes to mind here is Johnny Ceccotto who had a reputation for arriving back at the pit garage and the only feedback he could give on the bike was: 'needs more speed!!'

Factory Yamahas too, hmmm....

All hearsay of course... cool.gif

Another mechanic who should be mentioned is Sepp Schlögl, who "made" a few championships for Dieter Braun and Toni Mang, besides some "almosts" for Reinhold Roth, Helmut Bradl and a few others.

A while ago Steve you mentioned that Guy Bertin was one among your opponents of the time that you rated highly as a rider. Well, he had a reputation for also being very gifted on the technical side, and he worked for many years as a mechanic for various Grand Prix riders long after hanging up the helmet .

Yes you have to question what his motivation was to get on the bike. He obviously had a real illness that he needed help with but the paddock has never been overflowing with that type of support.

AG? Gold Coast? What's all that about? Talking in code. confused.gif

The hill commonly refered to as Death Hill is more properly called Gorse Hill. Was Death Hill a former name or an un-official one? Both names appear on the road sign with Death Hill below in brackets.

The pics of Brands back in the 70s brought back happy memories. So much has been built on by now. Mt favourite place to stand and watch the racing was right at the end of the Grandstand Straight, just at the start of Paddock. One year I found that they'd concreted it over, added bench seats and were changing to enter a sort of compound. I started to go less frequently after that and after a double-fatal in a British Karting GP, not at all.

Duke did a lap with Hailwood a on the back of, I think, a Gold Wing Honda in '75...I know cos I was there. Wasn't Mike still injured after an F1 crash.

Spot on! Rode round to popular acclaim that probably stunned him as much as the organizers. He was indeed still hobbling rather badly...although that didn't seem to hinder certain activities (as I know to my deep embarrassment!). Remarkably, his appearance coincided with the 'return' of that other great star, Edgar Jessop. And the breaking of SMB's lap record by Mick Grant on a Kawasaki.

I thought of all this because of mention of Stuart Shenton elsewhere....I seem to recall that he was a junior mechanic on the Kawasaki team which was managed by Stan Shenton. But then again, I could be wrong as it is approaching the limits of my memory!

Former road racer Anthony Gobert - he had/has substance use issues..... He was involved in some drama not too long ago on the Gold coast, Queesnsland, Oz.

Paul, sent you a pm a couple of days ago.....

Yes, well done gentlemen : Laurie Turnbull and Kevin Cass. Its Amaroo, 1970. Bizzarely, I remember this race which I think Turnbull won after dicing with Cass throughout. I was recently sent some pics of Turnbull's ES2 - have either of you seen him on it.
GD66
I certainly have, he has had it a couple of years, it is one of the ES2s built by Geoff Clatworthy, and may be the one ridden earlier by Mike Soderland and Dave Roper, but is certainly ex-John (Jock) Morris. Laurie has it turned out beautifully with a large, sexy fairing and finished in gunmetal grey, and he rides the wheels off it, regularly whipping most of the Manxes and G50s in Premier 500 or Period 3, Classic 500 or whatever they're calling 1962 cutoff this year. He wasn't at the Historic Nationals in Perth last weekend, as his wife has an eye problem that needs to be addressed, but is normally at all big classic meetings and goes hard, it's great to have him back racing and I just wish that more racers of the past would come and have a gallop with us, there's no pressure or expectation, and I'm sure they'd love getting back on for a squirt once more just for fun, can you hear me Jeff and Stu ??? cool.gif

Yes, GD I've just found the attacement - it is pretty impressive looking. I'll try and post it. I used to work with Laurrie at Bennett Hondas in Mascot. He made it over here in 1971 but ran out of dosh. I remember he had some rides in Czeko ( now its gone cant remember how to sell it).......Anyway please pass on my regards if you see him.
