It actually got worse than this when his team truck/motorhome turned up at imola 1976. Somehow they had grafted a Concord style nose on it and it was laughable. Then poor pld Dave could'nt put a lap in without the bike misfiring or whatever. anyone have apic of that motorhome/truck? roflmao.gif

Jeff.

I think it's always wise to be extremely wary of 'ex-works' tackle on sale on evilbay, no comebacks if it's a cocked up production model i.e. OW31 was a works bike IIRC. For example, why not fit the original wheels and add the others as spares coming with the bike? Is there any official provenance/documentation? It's a big lump of money for a bike with uncertain heritage, to say the least. I would have thought that machinery like this would be snapped up 'in the trade', without ever going on an internet auction unless it's just a 'toe in the water', so to speak. Just my opinion.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!

BTW, how much is that in REAL money ??

I wasn't thinking of buying it, have wasted my money on bikes in a previous life, was just interested, sounded fairly expensive to me.

I'd have a punt at that if if it was a genuine OW31, be nice sat in my lounge !! (dream on, Mick !!)

Seriously though, I doubt that a genuine works bike would ever surface for sale on e-bay, although I am always ready to be corrected !!

BTW Graham, an excellent post from you re Norman Brown's sister, please ask her to keep in contact with the forum as he was a much loved and a much respected rider. up.gif

Hi Jeff.
I don't know about in Oz but in the UK there is a perception that things 'may not always be as they seem' where internet auction sites are concerned, I've seen bikes and parts which were claimed to be 'ex-works' or 'GP works parts' that would never stand up to scrutiny by anyone who had any basic knowledge of race bikes.

As always. yer takes yer choice and yer makes up yer mind, but never take it at face value.

smile.gif Sorry, but I am offline over night...

Hans Müller was close - it is Hartmut Müller and the year is 1984 !

Next one - I think something like that would be impossible today

This must be Thierry Espié aboard a 350 Chevallier Yamaha at the 1982 German GP - Thierry was a factory rider on the 250 Pernod but I remember that for some strange reason he took a couple of late-season rides on a spare 350 Chevallier of Didier de Radigues - hence his Pernod leathers on a Johnson-sponsored bike.
But of course, Espié, Pernod and Chevallier were rather close, Espié had already ridden a Pernod-sponsored Chevallier in earlier years, just like Rougerie or poor Olivier Chevallier himself had done before him - and Thierry joined the Chevallier team in 1983, with Elf-sponsorship that time .

clap.gif Correct ! Thierry Espie it is !
Was he really doing the 350cc race in this leathers, too ? My assumption was that he wears them because there may not have been enough time to change leathers between 250cc and 350cc practice sessions.
I did not know that he was no regular rider for the Johnson 350cc team in 1982 - that makes the thing even more remarkable, as Didier de Radigues was still fighting for the 350cc title at the German GP 1982

I saw this bike at Marcus De Caux's place last year when i went with a german mate off mine to by a neat TD2..lovely it was. Its the bike Ron Boulden ran in Australia and its far from a factory OW31 although its pretty neat. I wondered why the rear tyre was so narrow and the engine so wide to which Warren Willing commented " the Jack Daniels is ruining your memory" roflmao.gif

FYI $50,000 is about 20k GB..still a bloody lot
