Mr Fu out of photos? Impossible! He is probably at Brands, it's typical Brands winter weather, grey, wet, cold, rain coming down sideways, as only it can at bbrands and Eppynt, but when you get home again and thawed out, you start planning the next weeks sojourn up.gif

Santa used to go round brands on the back of a trailer at the old "Boxing Day" car races.......sometimes with snow on the track eek.gif

Health and safety, what do they know lol.gif

Nigel, may be worth having a flick through mdlracing.co.nz while doing your TZ research, I think he may be geographically desirable for you as well, good luck with your quest and hope to see you at the Phillip Island Classic in 2010 up.gif

Thanks Glenn, had a look at the site, and also caught up with Murray today at Pukekohe, looks like we might have a possibility!
The post classic racing was good today, with some of the guys you may remember from the seventies and eighties (Trevor Discombe, Trevor Taylor etc. as well as Paul Pavitch doing the commentry).

Great stuff Nigel, small world or six degrees of separation ? My oldest brother used to mechanic on Trevor Discombe's race bikes, then later bought the ex-Jim Allen, ex-Dale Wylie TZ700 that he eventually sold a few years ago to Trevor Taylor. Paul Pavletich bought my other brother's Egli-Kawasaki 1000 ! Glad to hear you may have things under way, get out there, son ! cool.gif
LamboNZ
Bit of a coinsidence, you knowing all of them on that level! Spoke to Trevor Discombe today, he was riding the wheels off his TZ350C though still. Trevor taylor won all of the races.

The TZ that MDL have is not the model I was looking for, but I may have to go for it, got itchy feet again!!

wave.gif Silverstone, Club corner exit?

Must have been 'interesting' braking from flat out on a 500 with a single front disc !! eek.gif

Looks like it has 2 calipers, a twin pot and a four pot.
GD66
One fourspot caliper and one two-spot on a single disc.... the product of a tortured mind... tongue.gif , not sure of the origin, smacks of the Chevallier school of thinking, ie try everything. Didn't catch on, but no doubt worth a try...

It is the Chevallier 500, wacky!! :\
PaulMB
Less rotating mass with one disc, so probably thinking it would be easier to turn the bike. However, possibly a little bit of a problem with heat so they required the air vent to the rear caliper. Also, this set up places one caliper, the bigger one in this case, in front of the fork, further from the steering head and possibly causing more of a problem with steering shake should a "tank slapper" occur. eek.gif

Still, like us with the inside out disc on the carbon bikes, everything had to be tried. Great times, as there was a place for experimentation and people who thought about stuff to make their bikes quicker. cool.gif
exclubracer
I wonder if it's a standard 500-3 disc? Didn't they have a reputation for warping?

As Mr Fu says, this is a Chevallier bike on which only the engine is from Honda origin . To be more precise, it is the second avatar of the 500cc Chevallier, the first one was the 1984 Honda RS powered, Elf-Johnson sponsored machine with De Radigues and Le Liard, then Didier was convinced by Serge Rosset that he would be better off with a full factory Honda NS so he went that way for 1985 ( taking with him the Elf-sponsorship to Rosset ) and did not succeed much, realised that he was more at home with both the long wheelbase , tube framed Chevalliers that he had always ridden so far , and the personal friendship and mutual trust he enjoyed with Alain Chevallier , so for 86 he managed to keep a factory NS engine that he took to Alain to build a frame around, and also found some sponsorship money from Rollstar in Belgium. The next year, Alain and Didier were both lured by the Castiglioni brothers to run the Cagiva team ( with, again, a belgian sponsoring deal from Didier with Bastos ) but that proved sadly uncompetitive as Alain could not come to grips with the ....ahem...peculiar company management style of Mrss Castiglioni

Right then.
Good shout re the date, now I know that I'll have a delve in the bobness programme archive. I'm 99% sure I've got it, remains to be seen whether I noted grid positions on the day.
The front number looks like a 5? As someone said, Mez Mellor-esque helmet.
The game's afoot, Watson.
