Evening Barry & Grips, it is Johnny Rea, Jonathan Rea's Dad.

Its 1983 at Brands, and the scrap had been race long, but going into Paddock on the last lap Tony Head, Alan Irwin, Con Law and Johnny Rea went in to the corner side by side, but Rea & Law both went down in a heap of cartwheeling bikes, flailing bodies and straw bales!! looked really bad... but luckily they both lived to tell the tale, all be it with broken legs and pelvis etc!! eek.gif

I am unlucky enough to be missing a couple of volumes of Motocourse, and 1978 is one of them. If anyone is feeling charitable and has a spare copy of this or the 1977 edition......

Herro.....

Almost identical in fact. apart from the slot machined in the edge. I would go so far as saying they just look like modded yam ones.

a quick google image search turned this up....

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...%3Doff%26sa%3DN
Leggy
and yam ones are split in the middle with 2 pins and a bolt running right through the valve to hold it all together.....just like yours!

Another crappy photo, poor light, but a great smile up.gif Nothing before the Kiwi "designs" which was copied by the Arai factory when he rode the Elf etc. Then later on, I think I did a couple of the JPS helmets, Phil.

Un français , I guess, the GPA helmet and the SMAC wheels hint to that ...I was thinking of a very early Bernard Fau , before he sarted using his well-known helmet colours ( 1974 ? ) but that doesn't fit with the silencers .... could it be Pierre Soulas again ? or Pierre Guy ? or François Gomis ?

...oh, Antony will know if I don't wink.gif

At first I thought you might mean they were talking about a Mike painting helmets, then possibly you might have thought it was Mike who was there?...doesn't take much to conFUse me admittedly.

I am sometimes surprised where helmets themselves turn up. To be expected in museums or shops, but I once had a friend go to a Restaurant in Stuttgart & find two McLaren driver's helmets there...apparently the owner was Hans Herrmann the ex Porsche driver.

I have a friend (mmm tis true) who happened on two helmets their owners just wanted to find a good home for. One was a Jon Ekerold & the other a J-P Ruggia

Jean-Louis...in 1977 confused.gif ??? Now, I think that this time you've got me ( us , with Antony ) totally clueless, Graham....the only Jean-Louis I could think of at the time is Jean-Louis Enndewell, brother of a (more famous) Sidecar racer...but I never knew he had crossed the channel

Is it the 1977 PBI meeting Graham, the sad one when Piers Forester was killed ?

Ah, OK, the name does ring a bell, I think he was quite handy in the national 750cc production class which was then a field of 750 H2 Kawasaki's...and also in Endurance races.... but I never , ever knew he had gained an international licence and rode abroad ... Thanks for that one Graham up.gif

Jean-Claude Meilland , often mistaken for Bernard Fau that year, due to the identical Solamor-GPA bike decoration , and usually similar helmet design....but not this time though , with this unusual plain white GPA lid !!!
