£10 says it's the Old Hairpin.
Didn't he turn out in the late 70s/early 80s in "dead mean" black and silver livery? Very striking it was too, IIRC.

Must confess have drawn a blank on the 4th chap in the Gary Padgett, Dave Griffith, Richard P-J pic a few pages back.
Have been through 1985 Donny progs and no clues there. An exact date of the photo may be nice, my gut feel is it was an F2 race?

I don't think it was an F2 race - the only other shot I took of the grid for this race was this blurry one of Mick Preston:

Wild and crazy punt - Piers Forrester. There used to be a fairly high - and very hard - bank at the bombhole which I know subsequently was removed but wasnt it still there around the mid seventies.....making the shot Coram Curve tongue.gif

No Russ, at that time I was a long haired (I know thats hard to believe now!!) spotty faced youff, the next race I saw was the Race of Aces, then a year later must of been Easter Monday? another National on 3rd April 1972.
Looked in my progs, and it appears our paths never crossed! frown.gif

I was only 15/16 then, and had to rely on Dad to run me around.

No, I was back in Sydney by then working in the Leyland factory. Trimby's macchi was quick cos it was looked after by Syd Lawton and here's the evidence:

Aermacchi Mettisse,#4, I remember seeing that pic ages a go Russ, very evocative of the time, with the lovely Kent countryside in the back ground,... now with the M20 in that spot from left to right. frown.gif
