I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time either, not by a long way!!! roflmao.gif

Hi exclub, you're right - on a common crankcase. Not sure about the gearbox. Marcel would know this stuff...... I think only a handful were made and they broke down a lot, which I think was often related to gearbox/ primary drive problems.

Meanwhile back at my nemesis question....
I originally looked for the #60 Gary Padgett, but got no clues.
Mainly becuase it seems Mr Padgett was a late alteration, taking the number and ride of a certain David Montgomery. No wonder I was confused.
Race was Round 2 of the British Promoter's Championship, 8 April 1985, and the results are in the prog for all to see.
So, here we go for some clues
Race order, number first
55 Mark Phillips
5 Donnie McLeod
33 Phil Mellor
8 Kevin Mitchell
51 Alan Jeffrey
112 Des Barry
34 John Brindley
14 Ian Newton (replacing Tony Head it says in my prog)
62 Martin Bennett
49 Mark Westmoreland
Fastest Lap to Donnie Mac at 1.28.98, which makes me think it was a bit damp. Added to the fact the Mick Preston is dressed in a body condom.

So, no joy for our row. R P-J is listed as #52, DG as #25.
#37 Mick Preston's bike is listed as a 347 Yamaha, Kevin Mitchell is listed as on the Decorite.
So, any further clues on the mystery 4th man?
Blowed if I know....

The Rich Schlachter pic, he was down to ride as #2, but got 3 when Mamola swapped him.

I don't think it was an F2 race - the only other shot I took of the grid for this race was this blurry one of Mick Preston:

True enough, but I'm pretty sure Dick Linton actually ended up owning at least one Linto, probably with the sole intention of creating confusion for the likes of us....

By the way Jeff and Stu, Old Bike Australasia #11 is in the shops, you both feature in a Swann Series article in it.

What's up? Nobody at home???

I had the time to go and check my magazine collection before anyone posts the answer, and I can see that it wasn't Feuz. [clutching at straws]Perhaps Jacques Grandjean?[/clutching at straws]

What is confusing though in retrospect, is that the bike has blue back-grounds, suggesting it is a 350.
Unless he had fitted some of the Armstrong 350 cylinders?

The Decorites were 250s, with a Rotax engine, and IIRC the only people that made 350 cylinders for the Rotax were Armstrong.

Thats a Decorite alright :\
It could just be a 250 in a 350 race as was common in the period. Armstrong did make 350 cylinders but from what i've been told the 250 gearbox wasn't up to the extra power.
