Hi

Heerlen in Holland 1979, Hyvarinen, Ekerold and Hernemdt all spot on.

Can’t remember where I ended up in the race I did 250 and 350 there, 1979 was the only year I raced there.

PS! Were you there ?

Hi Paul,

Yes its Tony Head to the right clap.gif , the guy to the left is a fellow Scandinavian, I am sure that he was on a few times in the old forum.

I can’t remember the name of the guy that won the race maybe “HEMEYLA” can help out on that one?

-Leif

The race was in a city (or outside actually) named Heerlen in Holland 1979.

HEMEYLA
Hi Leif, no i wasn't there, no 50cc class.

Your fellow Scandinavian is Peter Sköld finished 2nd in the 500cc class.

The 500cc winner is a Dutchman named H.T. smile.gif

You are not in the results from the 250 class but finished 15th in the 350.

Call me Ton please, 50cc rider 1969 - 1979 on the famous Dutch Hemeyla.

Have a look at www.hemeyla.nl

Mmmhhh....Graham, Mike, are yousure about the "ex-Heron" bit ? For the 1975 season, the Heron 750 triples were indeed painted in a sort of similar scheme, but the 500 RG's ( which only came out the year after.... ) were never painted that way IIRC .... and this is of course a 500 in the picture. In 76, the Heron bikes ( 500 and old 750 triples ) were painted in the well known "orange and white" scheme that Sheene wore for his two world titles...

blush.gif blush.gif Yes your right Philippe in 1976 the colours had changed to the Red,yellow, white and black as in this one that was on the original thread recently from Silverstone 1976.

And in 1975 the bikes other than Sheenes blue factory 500 were TR500 twins.

Photo Copyrighted to Graham Etheridge, racebikepics.

In 1976 both John Newbold and John Williams had the RG500 in the new colours as in the Sheene picture in my last post. Right sorted that out...next!!! tongue.gif wave.gif

Didnt the original factory 500 square four appear in '74, and was ridden by Sheene that year and in 75 in the facory colours of blue and white ?

wave.gif Morning Russell, yes in 1974 the "original" RG500 was in the Suzuki colours as here at Brands in October 1974 and they stayed the same for the Works bikes in 1975.

Yum, love those early RGs. Hey Stu, Jon Allnatt once told me that with the success of his forays into Southeast Asia, and his success in the AMA series on the triples, that Geoff Perry was the rider chosen for the Suzuki factory's entry into Grands Prix with the four-cylinder RG500. With his subsequent, tragic death in the air crash in 1973, that role then fell to Sheene and Findlay. Ever heard that one ?

Nice to see Jons name on here! For sure the Geoff Perry story is true. I have no doubt as it was relayed to me by both the Colemans and suzuki personal at the time. Thats why the bike was small and Barry needed to work right away to make it fit his taller frame. When Geoff was killed he was the dogs bollocks both in the USA and Asia where at that time the Japanese factories were heavily involved, staking claims in an emerging market. He was a natural to go to Europe. We all aspired to be like Geoff and his death was so bloody unfortunate. FYI both Geoff and Jon worked at Air NZ and when they had a strike or whatever Jon told me it was just bad luck for Geoff and visa versa for Jon that he wasnt on that Pan Am 707!!!
GD66
Thanks for that mate, I agree with all of that. Sadly missed, both of them. Saw a pic of Jon recently, hanging on to the seat of your early RG #85 on a dummy grid somewhere, that's what tickled the memory.
