If there is no doubt , Giacomo was one of the greatest champions of all the time, he had many easy victories without a real opposition. But , for everyone, what was the Ago's best races...For me, it's his Daytona victory with the Yamaha and his last with the MV on the Ring...I except the battles with Hailwood...I was too young at this time
To stick to races with real opposition, and without an enormous machinery advantage, and also sticking like Antony to the times when I actually followed racing :
- Grand Prix de France 1977 at the Paul-Ricard , last off the grid , way behind the pack, stormed through the field to end up second behind Barry , catching and passing all the other factory riders , including fellow Yamaha rider Stevie Baker whom he relegated in 3rd place....the period reports wrote that Ago rode like a madman ...
- The Hockenheim 750cc World Championship race that same year, it turned out to be his last race ever, and reports at the time tell how determined Giacomo was to finish his career on a top note - which he did, by winning the race in brilliant fashion .
- Italy 1976 , a few laps of splendid battle with Sheene and Read , the three of them on identical 500 RG's , before his machine let him down . I believe a certain Mr Avant who posts here witnessed this battle from fairly close up in the early laps
