Very nice picture of the "old bugger", Suzuki GB put some good riders in the saddle of their TR750 to protect Sheene's 2nd place in the MCN Superbike series.

Percy Tait became the fourth(an oldest) rider of the Suzuki GB team in 1976, despite he was 20 years older than the others.....today he is "ironically" the last "survivor".

When did Percy campaign a Rotweiller? I seem to recall it was around this time. He did a race in Dijon (´76, ´77 ??) on the rottie I think, or was it on the Suzuki? All I remember is it rained all day and Percy was in a great scrap for the lead with about 5 other riders. He had a "moment" on the penunltimate lap and finished 6th I think. Anyone else remember this race?

Percy lives very near me in deepest Worcestershire. I didn't get to know him until about 30 years ago right at the end of his career, but we still meet up for a few beers every so often. People keep telling him he really should write a book before it's too late, but he's so modest he thinks no-one would want to read it. Some of the stories he comes out with are brilliant and probably not for publication anyway, at least not until the people involved have passed on to the great circuit in the sky!

Hi,
I am new here, but saw your comment about Percy, next time you meet up ask him about the last lap, last corner at the One hour Production race, Anderstorp Sweden in, (I think) 1969 or 70) and who got the last laugh, but keep it to yourself!
java script:smilie('wave.gif')
Maybe it has been posted, I looked but could not find it, you guys may be interested to take a look at the new Yamaha Classic Racing Team web site: www.yamaha-classic-racingteam.nl very clean site, good pics in the "multi-media" section, the old guys still "strutting their stuff", back to the days when men were men and women were glad of it.

I have many pics of International/GP racing from 66 - 74, if I ever fathom out how to post a pic I will put some up, and see who can put names to faces/bikes/locations wave.gif

Long shot : Robin Mortimer ? What about the state of the back shocks ?

I had this nice/interesting email from Julian Soper last week, he has said its OK if I shared it with you.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I bought the TZ750 from Paul Smart. The story was that the bike had been built by Kel Caruthers for Warren Willing to race at Daytona in 1976. The frame number was WW1. One story I heard was that Willing expected to just turn up and race the bike, but Kel wanted paying!. Paul Smart heard this and bought the bike. The bike was quite special. As well as the frame, the engine was based on an OW31 factory unit. I didn't know the bike still existed.
I was invited down to Brands by Frank Perris, on the 24th April & 5th May 1976 after Dave Croxford gave up with the Norton. The first wednesday the mechanics wheeled the bike out of that space-age transporter they had. They fired the bike up, the engine stopped, and they put it back in the transporter. The engine had shed some teeth off the cam belt, causing the valves to tangle. Frank Perris apologised to me and asked me to return the next wednesday to try again. Barry Ditchburn was watching all this going on from the pit wall. Although I had hardly ever spoken to him, he said to me " what the f**k do you want to ride that pile of s**t for". I had no answer to that! Tony Smith eventually was chosen as the rider as he lived close to the factory.
A friend of mine told me about the AtlasF1 site and I saw your name attached to a lot of the photo's.
Recently, I have been in contact with some of my racing friends from the 70's. We have been burning CD's with our collection of photos from that period, and swapping with each other. I have attached a photo that I had never seen before until recently. It just seems to capture the 70's.
Regards,
Julian Soper

Yeah, I remember Lee, raced against him a few times, a real shock to find that he had been killed though.
When did this happen, was it racing?

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but whatever. I have just put the finishing touches to my latest DVD.
It's centered on the Motorcycle Centenary event at Brooklands last year. Perhaps some of you might have seen the item that Steve Parrish put together from the event on Moto GP on BBC2? The video runs for 80 minutes and features 55 minutes of footage from the Centenary, with three smaller items on bikes within the Museum Collection or that have significant connections to the Track. We finish up with a montage of stills from the Centenary, which was attended by some 6,000 people and over 250 racing bikes.
Here's a photo of the dvd box, front and back :

You can order from me for £15 plus £1.50 P&P, my e-mail is gary@yesterdaysracers.com.
As this is a fully endorsed Brooklands product, a portion of the profits will go to the Museum. It will be available from the Museum shop in about two weeks.
