Mind you, I once built the V4 Suzuki gearbox for Rob at the US GP 1988 like this, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 5th and then 6th. Rob found it amusing and had to do two laps to make sure there was something wrong. I said try the second bike but, being consistant, I had built that one the same way as well. Bugger, wasted the first free practice session on Thursday.

The rider on #60 was a young guy by the name of Nathan Rogers, who rode for Fowlers that year. quite a few people said he had a bright future, not sure what became of him.
#27 is Chris Sansome, who had a wild card ride in the 250 British GP a couple of years ago.
#88 is Royston Edwards

Yes, I just got back from there. This is Roger Simmons, ex of Suzuki GB press workshops, who took fastest run of the day on the last run of the day in the 6 bike shootout, within 2 hundredths of the course record, 8.89 seconds for the 440 yards.

Roger used to ride TZ's for Groombridges in the late 70's/early 80's, so it sort of fits with this forum. Stu, do you remember him? It's a turbo Hayabusa by the way.

Richard Albans of TTS was also in the 6 bike shootout on his supercharged Hayabusa.

I couldn't agree more. I would love to see a modern 125cc GP on the old circuit, but sadly the circuit has been well and truly destroyed for the purposes of the 4-wheeled brigade, and the prospect of paying through the nose to spend the day peering through a wire fence at a procession doesn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm. Of course, you could get into the paddock in those days as well, but I won't get started on that...

Well, it seems that I got up before Antony on this Sunday morning wave.gif

This is Thierry Noblesse, I would guess at Siverstone wink.gif and in 1977, his rookie year on the Continental Circus . He finished 7th at this British GP incidentally .....

http://www.bike70.com/noblesse/77_2b.jpg

Thierry was later drafted into the "Pernod" squad and wore the well known yellow and blue livery for a few years .

I don't agree with the way they do things, but......the riders at least earn a good living from the GP's now, they don't have to rely on paltry prize money to get to the next GP, and when there beg the race promotor for a start. :\

How many great riders in the period of this forum, were living literally hand to mouth and almost bankrupted themselves to go GP racing?
I have just read an article in an old Motorcycle Racer mag from 1980? about one of our forum contributors having to stop GP 500 racing because he was losing so much money,( i:e travel/fuel, tyres, parts, living expenses etc etc) so had decided to ride in UK meetings only.

As I say I dont like the way Dorna are turning it into a two wheel version of F1, but the paying spectators really are not the important people any more, IT IS the Worldwide TV audience of millions who are. ambivalent.gif
picblanc
That why I think the Classic bike meetings/Parades are so popular now, it still costs money to race/buy these bikes yes!! but, most riders run them for fun they don't have to do it, and are not doing it trying to get into MotoGP/WSB etc etc.

clap.gif Riders are correct - year is 1982. It's the final 50cc GP race in Hockenheim in 1982 where Stefan Dörflinger gained his first World Championship title.
HEMEYLA
Only six 50cc GP's in 1982, this is the last one from the serie at Hockenheim, won by Eugenio Lazzarini @ Garelli (tuned by Jan Thiel & Martin Mijwaart), with Stefan Dörflinger @ Van Veen Kreidler (tuned by Herbert Rittberger) second place but world champion.

Two ways to taste the atmosphere from the 1973 Spa-Francorchamps GP on www.hemeyla.nl, me and Herman in the challenge of the tent building worldchampionship. lol.gif

1. mediaplayer link

2. moviepage link

The 8mm movies are made and converted by my friend Herman Meijer the gearbox genius who altered Barry Sheene's ex works Suzuki 125 to 6 gears (F.I.M. rules 1969).
