Above photo is the bridge halfway through the Twiglees stage in the Scottish borders.
That was also the year Jerry Larsson was in his light green 911S on the RAC. I was impressed to see his mechanics changing a driveshaft at Prestwick, sitting directly on the ice-covered ground wearing lightweight overalls. I guess once you have serviced a car on the Swedish Rally, the RAC at its worst was a Caribbean holiday.
Lars Nystrom was in the other Scania Vabis 911L and the only other 911 on the 69 RAC was Jock Russell/Peter Valentine in the well-known MN Championship 911S reg no 81LOK?

I remember those days, before global warming and we had snow in the winter lol.gif When was the last time we had the white powdery stuff? The picture in greystokes looks fabulous up.gif

There was one pretty desperate RAC in the early 90s? (snow always risked stopping it dead because the Forestry Commission do not allow studs in any conditions). Later than that I wasn't too involved.
Before that, "snowy" RACs were:
1988 (when the world and his wife had all entered in 2wd Sierra Cosworths - about the worst possible car for snow!)
1985 (the last "real" RAC before office hours rallying came in - up north, more ice than thick snow)
1974? (in Scotland?)
1971 (the "From Harrogate it Started" video year - dire on the Yorkshire stages)
1969 (north part of route - it started going out of the Yorkshire stages, was icy in Scotland and Keilder and then was quite thick on the North Wales stages coming south)
1965 (in Wales as much as anywhere?)
Other years there were isolated patches (I recall 2 or 3 snowy stages in the north of the Lake District came out of nowhere in 1982 on what was a "wet" RAC)
