48 minutes in and Hamilton is on a different planet...........................

Now Kubica has stepped up to the plate..................

Hmm. I don't like that one bit. I

The circuit is either too dangerous to drive on ( in which case you don't start a session ) - OR - it's wet, damp, tricky, but you let people get on with it. Artificially pushing the track conditions closer towards dry at ANY point beyond taking it from undriveable to wet-but-driveable is totally out of order. Ferrari fan track marshalls desperately trying to make the track suit Ferrari more than McLaren is frankly - not acceptable. Circuits should not be 'dried out'.

If this were race day then you would have a point, but this is a practice session, it's counts for absolutely nothing, and does not benefit any driver or team.

Kubica is ruling S1! Seems like new aero package for Monza's working.

Not much good if your going to spin off further round the track.

He just spun tongue.gif Clearly, he's in a hurry.

Now they've all joined in, this is fun.

Interesting to watch the cars going over the kerbs at the chicanes. Several of them have had all four wheels over the line. Nothing new I know, but with the last race in mind, how far over the kerbs can they go before it becomes an advantage?

No point on race day either, this is common practice world wide. Go see some races.

Im just thinking of some hypothetical way that we could allow drivers on practice day to experience as many conditions as possible, to ensure a safer race. I guess its a highly daft idea, but just a rambling thought I had. lol.gif

Wow! Kubica up.gif

Where did he pull that from - track drying out?
Igor_86
its the new helmet love.gif must be up.gif

So is Robert's F1.08 on low fuel load because of some kind of anniversary (his helmet for this particular GP) or aero package for Monza does work much better?

Heidfeld also does good times maybe they aren't on low fuel loads?
glorius&victorius
looking at the practise times.... both Ferrari and BMW have great driver line-ups. Why change? biggrin.gif
Igor_86
great lap time by BMW so i think its the new aro for monza
glorius&victorius
I wonder if Bridgestone has brought better tires, since Spa... because both Heidfeld and Raikkonen seem to be closer with their teammates

How can Mclaren keep Kovalainen? On race pace he is always struggling.

Perfect nr 2 driver - fast in qualifyings but weak in races so he can always start high and block the rivals.

yes but not fast enough to take away points from massa and kimi....

anyways.. i think Alonso wont sign with Renault again... look both at the bottom of the timesheets... must be so frustrating
Tenmantaylor
Lewis on a flyer last lap... but slow last sector.

Macs fastest in sector 1 by a couple of tenths.

Kimi on top, looking good.

Times really close 0.5s covers top 7, 1s covers next 10. Lets hope it stays like that!
bankoq
It's not true Kubica was fastest on S1.
snx843
The BMW has solid 1-2lap pace in that session.

Ferrari also.

McLaren (in lewis's hands) just did 8laps roughly 0.2 off the best time of Kubica/Kimi, very consistant. Lewis's best lap set on lap 7 of 8 using the soft tyre.

Renault POWER! sad.gif

BMWs are working well.
Ferrari powerd cars are working very well.

Sorry, Macs and kubica faster than everyone sector 1 by couple of tenths.

Looks like lower DF favours sector 1, higher df favours sector 3 as they seem mutually exclusive.

looks close, the long run pace of the mcmercs looked very impressive...
Ferrari look very quice too as do Bimmer

By the first impression BMW look to be the strongest here, even if Kimi finished on top. I wouldn't mind a BMW 1-2, as long as Massa is ahead of Hamilton. wink.gif

They were just fast at one stint, whereas Ferrari and Mclaren were fast at every stint.
Anyway as the chances of rain a very high it doesn´t matter.

Rain will again spoil Kimi´s party evil.gif

WTF are Renault and Toyota doing?
Scotracer
This circuit is more about mechanical grip than power so I can't understand what Renault's excuse could be. But, watching Fred and Nelson driving they were definitely not stable over the kerbs and the Lesmos were bit :\

They have usually problems in bad conditions especially Toyota.

I think I'm gonna have a tenner on Kubica to win at. Odds of 14/1 at the minute.

Nice! As I said in the other thread, ending of FP1 was the most intersting bit of F1 without actual F1 action I ever saw with surroindings looking like it's about 8 o'clock in the evening, rain pouring down and mechanics removing water from the garages.

FP2 was interesting, I'm still wondering that Kubica 2 laps stint on softs, all purples and 1.3 in front of P2 at the moment. Sure it was a early Q2 simulation but that time was still second best, even though it was set pretty early in the session. I hope it means BMW will be mighty here.

Inflatable balls can sometimes get deflated or burst because of too much pressure. With that in mind I believe the red ones have the silver ones covered. We might also see some white ones get between the red ones and the silver ones. The yellow ones were kicked hard and it has to hurt.

Power still rules here. Not making excuses for them, but Monza has always been about power. It's one of the longest full throttle laps on the calender.

Short stint of 5 laps with low fuel for both BMWs, same for Rosberg
D.M.N.
Irrevelant what it happened today. Tomorrow all sites have "Rain/Thunder" so I'm drawing nothing into the positions from Practice Two, and if the teams have any sense, they shouldn't be drawing too much into it either.
AFCA
- Theissen: ''I'm happy for three reasons: the testsessions have gone well here, in previous years we've always done well at this circuit and our basic set-up worked well today.'' The only setback for BMW Sauber was the fact no time was left to do a tyre comparison with the hard compound.

- Vettel is happy, Bourdais isn't: ''My old problem appeared again.'' The Frenchman complains about a lack of confidence in his car when he goes through the chicanes or over bumps. ''I can now only hope for rain. Then the car clearly behaves better.''

Looks like another 12 to 14 point weekend for BMW.. up.gif
Nick and Robert are both good in the rain with no mistakes.
Very promising towards P2 in WCC... clap.gif

OT wink.gif

WTF are the McLarens keeping to the track whilst driving through the chicane? I understood they were of the opinion that they did not apply to them?

I assume the British press will be utterly confused that any of the cars are using the route they are, as they seem as convinced as McLaren that chicanes are rather an inconvenience and should be avoided at all costs.

Yes but if you compare V10 to V8 times the differences are the smallest of the entire calender. It shows that it's more about keeping speed and riding the kerbs than balls-out brute force from your loud box.
