Perhaps they believe he can overcome the problem with tyre temps?
Let´s keep in mind BOTH Ferrari drivers have lost ground today, Kimi more as he has spend almost every lap in traffic. Dominicelli already admitted their car doesn´t work on wet. I for one don´t believe Kimi has suddenly lost his speed. Now that it´s mixed conditions - similar to first stint of Spa/Silverstone, or China last year - he looks fast again.

Different car characteristics in different conditions.
Notice how Lewis is now "forgetting" the last part of the race...
