I'm clerking a sprint this weekend and we have three generations of one family (the Murchies) - grandfather, father and son taking part.
Has this ever happened in racing?

I am probably wrong, but the Andrettis?

Or maybe Unsers at Pikes Peak? Or anybody in NASCAR?

Don't think they ever did - but can't someone persuade Mario and Michael out of retirement for the Daytona 24 hours or something?

Possibly at the Brighton Speed Trials, three or four years back. I think there were 3 generations of the Delaney family - Tom, Geoffrey and Lucy.

I thought of the Unsers, too, but Jerry sen. retired in the thirties already, and Louis didn't have any children (?, at least none that raced). Don't know about the fourth generation, though.

From Wiki .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Andretti

The Andretti family became the first family to have four relatives (Michael, Mario, Jeff, and John) compete in the same series (CART). [1]. In 1990, 1991 and 1992, they had four family members competing in the Indy 500.

Marco, Mikey and Mario all did a Grand-Am Daytona 24 Hours a few years back if I am not mistaken...
Terry Walker
Don't know about racing, but earlier this year three generations of Mitchells, headed by grandfather Noel, (former President of the WA Sporting Car Club, former Cortina racer from Caversham days 40 years ago) plus son, plus grandson all took part in the Historic meeting Regulality runs at Barbagallo Raceway.

The Luyendyk family could have done it. Granddad Jaap was racing historic monoposto's at 80 (!) and was no slack mind you. When Arie Jr emerged, he also came to Holland to experience the Zandvoort track and FF1800 racing. His father and granddad mentoring him. A race could have been on the maps. Unfortunately Jaap's health problems stood in the way.

But that's hardly three generations, is it?wink.gif

And at VSCC Prescott hillclimb on at least one occasion. They were also at a VSCC Silverstone race meeting, but not all in the same race as there were only two cars between the three of them.

What about the Foyts or the Pettys? There are enough Petty offspring and relatives to make it quite likely.

Well, A. J. and Larry Foyt would present three generations with only two persons! lol.gif It doesn't get easier! drunk.gif

AJ Foyt (Jr.) was long retired before Larry and AJ IV came into the scene (not sure if AJ III ever raced).

Lee Petty raced with Richard in the 50s-early 60s (and even once protested successfully, in his own favor, a race which was originally awarded to The King!)...Richard raced with Kyle Petty in the 80s and early 90s...I don't know if Adam Petty ever did Cup with his dad before that terrible crash at Loudon.

On a much more local level, my friend Alissa Geving is the most recent sprint car champion at Petaluma Speedway - where her dad (and current car owner) Gary won a couple of titles himself in years past, as did his dad Lee Roy. But they didn't all race at the same time...

What about 2 generations in one event in a Grand Prix?
