And it's bacccckkkkkkk!!!
Poor Jules, having to castrate the thing like this. Although I'm loving how the only sets remaining other than BTCC are the ones I'm cack at, or don't know, lol.
Edit: Makarias beat me to it... and a second thing that's quite nice is that I've returned to find I've scored pole on the BTCC Silverstone Feature.

Gee, a shadow of its former self now. Only carset left I really enjoy is the Champcar V2.0. Thankfully I didn't spend 30 odd bucks on another KT. I think that's officially the end of my Batracing.

In the old Playstation F1 game when JV refused to give his name to the project Murray in commentary just said "the French Canadian" without mentioning JV so am sure Jules will just call the cars "the red Italian car" or something without referring to Ferrari itself

I've not heard any suggestion that the F1 sets won't return just as soon as they are sufficiently modified. Personally I don't think it'll alter my enjoyment of the game much at all, I'm too in love with the game engine in its own right to be bothered by driving an Alder Rodeo, and I'd still play private games (and public BTCC and GP2) even if the only sets left were the ones remaining right now.

I saw the other day you've only got 2 stars...what happened mate?
Makarias
Jan 5 2010, 02:59
Not quite sure... I only started teaming up with strangers this autumn, and I've typically shut up about those (too many) that I didn't like, except one that I nominated for sacking (and failed). And a couple of strangers I've got along really well with, so maybe it's someone that hasn't actually been my teammate?
Look at #41276, a rare occasion of me really getting it together for the full season. iirc some opponents there mumbled about foul play going on. As if my record of finishing 2nd overall outnumbering my championships by some 3:1 wouldn't suggest differently... I think sour grapes really can affect the star ratings quite a bit, especially for players with few ratings such as me (I only just got enough).
Nasty McBastard
Jan 5 2010, 04:38
Star ratings are a waste of time. Out of the people who think youre a good team mate, only 10-20% remember to star you. But of the people who dont like you, for whatever reason, EVERY one of them will give you a crap rating. Im sure people will star you down for BS like hitting them in a race etc. It really only counts negative opinions.
I go by comments, sackee/sacker counts, and awol counts.
Ill comment those who have been average-excellent, or even if they are shit but just do all their sessions etc. otherwise i dont comment at all. The only time i use stars is if someone has been amazingly awesome (and i remember) or really fecked me over somehow, then ill just 0-star them.
Mind you, ive only 0-starred 3 or 4 people, mostly for shit like doing 1 in 3 sessions, and then trying to sack ME for being AWOL when i wasnt.
Breadmaster
Jan 5 2010, 07:37
Indeed!
I know you to be a fine player, the 2 stars are as nothing when compared to personal recommendations.
Saying that though, i joined a game of F1'97 because I fancied the Arrows and teamed up with a guy whom had a couple of decent comments from players I know....turned out to be my worst teammate for months! Can't tell if he'll be there from one day to the next - thankfully it's the last race tomorrow or i'd have gone quite mad - wibble.
I comment on everyone but make it abundantly clear when I like someone.....otherwise it's "knows how to use a keyboard and can login without injuring himself" ;)
The star rating is a flawed system and the creators of the site know its flawed as anyone who tries to give them a rating is automatically switched to 5 stars, but that didn't stop them from making everyone else suffer it. When it was originally introduced, the morons of Batracer wasted no time in relegating my rating to zero, many with multiple accounts so they had the ability to do it multiple times. Slowly but surely, when the rush of the mini revenge storm was over, my rating went up to 3 and a half when I stopped playing. I never used the star rating and left comments of teammates.

These star ratings -- be them in bat or in any BB -- are always flawed even when many votes are necessary. Likewise the star rating for threads -- this one, for instance has 5 stars, I would guess 1 vote, so give it a zero and it will become a 2 stars thrtead...
In bat, for instance, some will give you no star just because you were faster tan them. In BBs usually because they disagree and lose arguments. And again in bat many clans ask their members to give 5 stars to every other member inflating their ratings... Um, perhaps we should do that as well in Atlasholics...
On the other hand I think the comments on profiles, together with AWOLs ans Sackings, are a good and usually reliable system. Much like eBay system.

Never seen this before, has it happened to anyone else?
Last race at le mans, dry all weekend, and me and my team mate had our setup spot on appart from the rear ARB which we had down to 40-43. There was no "conditions have changed" message before the race, and yet almost half of the field ended up with wierd setups ranging from 50 to -110 and most of them were active. wasnt just some shit setup because they were AWOL.
I thought i must have done something daft, but my TM was the same, and a few other people were moaning about it as well and saying 'it happened again' like it was some known bug or something.
Makarias
Jan 14 2010, 11:18
Never happened to me, but then if it's series specific I've only run two seasons of Le Mans...
Chicken McNuggets
Jan 15 2010, 19:11
I've never had that specific problem either, Nasty McBastard. I only remember my set-up being seemingly inexplicably terrible in an F1 '09 race in a McLaren once after a weather change, but my team-mate and everybody else were fine so presumably I just forgot to convert.
As for ratings, as I mentioned further up the thread, when my own rating first appeared I think it was only 2 1/2 stars. It's stabilized at four for a while now. As far as I'm aware, I've never been even vaguely unreasonable to any team-mate (actually unreasonably lenient to a number of team-mates in the past who were seriously asking to be sacked IMO) and have only once missed a session in any game as far as I recall, so presumably there must be a decent number of people rating others as 0 just for the kicks of it or something...

Sorry, forgot Id had a whinge about this. I didnt save it, but I havent seen it happen again either. They were the figures from the 1st lap. So without a 'conditions have changed' note, Id assume that after the 1st lap, everything should be 100%. I guess if conditions had changed between lap 'zero' and lap 1 but not enough to show as 'greasy' it might throw things off a % or 2, but this was WAY off.
Oh well, it hardly cost me a championship.

If you haven't tried out a series yet, these private games really can be a good way to get acquainted to the format. You'll get an idea what traits would be useful, what car packages to choose, driving style (well maybe not in a deathrace series) , reference points on setups etc. and whether you like the series or not.
Good fun with the mayhem so far

Not particularly at the moment... I tried GP2 once and it nearly killed me with equal parts of boredom and disappointments. And a private F1 2010 game is bound to pop up in a month or so, and coupled with publics and the current deathrace festivity (ace entertainment, but I'd like to score a proper result) I'm busy enough.
