The way I see it is if Honda sign a top driver (Alonso) he would come with a hefty price tag. Now considering Button is on a tidy package also, what are the chances of Honda coughing up for 2 high priced drivers in the current market.
I'm sure Ross didn't come cheap, and with the financial climate, combined with years of under performing, there has to be some pressure from Japan, I can't see it, considering the problems at the moment are 99.9% due to the car (not drivers) makes more sense to put the cash into it.

I have a feeling if Alonso does join I see him being teamed up with young Senna, perfect for Alonso and dream for Honda's PR...

Hmmm could Alonso boot Button out of another race seat ?

Button drove for Flavio way back in 2001 & 2002. 2001 was a disaster for Button, but 2002 he did very well against Jarno Trulli in the same car. Flav wanted to promote his test driver for 2003 (some guy by the name of Fernando Alonso) so Button was given the boot. Fortunately for Button he managed to find a ride at Honda that worked out well for a few years, but he could have been in that WDC-winning Renault instead. Flav has been quoted by The Times as saying "Jenson is a fine driver but there were too many contracts, too many things in the background." This is a bit ironic, since many figure that Trulli got the ride in 2003 because Briatore was his personal manager as well as the team manager.

To be honest I don't know if there is any bad blood between the two of them. I could understand if Jenson was a bit bitter (though it has worked out fairly well for him at Honda until the past two seasons). And Flav seems to not require as much financial control over his drivers these days, so it might be possible for them to work together again. Unlikely, but possible.

I don't think Honda are afraid to spend money on drivers, or anything else for that matter. Performance is what counts. If they had to pay Button $10M more than Senna, they would probably look at that as money well spent considering Button is likely to be 3-5 tenths quicker per lap (let's be honest, Bruno Senna is a solid but unspectacular talent). Finding that kind of time in the wind tunnel is considerably more expensive, and sometimes impossible.

Hope you're right, just think if Honda were 100% commited to JB they would've announced it by now.

So why haven't they, its not as if they're waiting for an end of season push, are they concerned that JB hasn't managed to put any distance between himself and Reubens, not saying Reubens should be beaten, but he is JBs benchmark, yes they know the car is a dog, even so you have to be perceived as the "number 1" ... doesn't mean leading in points when the car is useless as there are too many variables involved, but across a race weekend/season you have to walk away knowing you had one over on your team mate to galvanize the garage behind you.

Suppose its just PR stuff, it would be unfair on Reubens if Honda said "JB is confirmed, but we're waiting on Alonso" rather leave option on both ... though Reubens has history with Ross and is well suited to play second fiddle to a high profile number one ... interesting predicament.
