When Bob was at ESPN he used to go to quite a few.

I'd rather be at the race and be able to "stick my head outside the commentary box". I'm quite surprised considering that they are the premier US coverage.

Reminds me of when UK Channel 5 (has or used to have a poor reputation as a cheap, trashy channel) started to cover European football. They commentated from a hotel room whilst watching TV!

You have to understand that there aren't very many F1 fans in the USA. Most of the people I know don't even know what F1 is, never mind watch it religiously like I do. So the ratings for F1 are miniscule compared to other sports here.

too true...
a TV studio like every other on the planet, I guess. SPEED crew does a great job, though, with knowledgeable, charizmatic and no BS commentators (I like a journalist, a former GP driver and a former F1 mechanic setup) - excluding Windsor, whom I dislike.
I used to watch F1 in GB, Germany, France - and I must admit Speed crew is a top one, especially comparing to lousy British ITV, which has far more staff and commentators on site.

Between my laptop and my HD tv I have live feed and timing so it can't be far off their setup. cool.gif

Agreed. But the quality of the coverage got better with the addition of Windsor. I don't like him, but he does a good job for Speed with his grid walk, pit reporting, and commentary.

Also, Hobbs and Matchett are more entertaining than the ITV crew IMO. Driver versus Mechanic the whole race.

I think it's just a picture of his TV screen. Speed went to this shot for a few seconds, and then back to the track. It was so short it took me 5-6 times to pause my DVR on the shot. You can see the same shot on two of the screens. When I saw it (qualifying?) I expected one of the guys to say something about it but they never did. Haven't seen this before, maybe someone in the control room hit the wrong button.
